Thanks Matrix!

One question: the results include a line which says...
32 Matrix 281 28% 1822 AD 3 Retired
How could you have retired in 1822??? I thought that was only for people who got to 2020.

And one other point: the scoring section on the GOTM rules page should now be updated.

Hey Stormerne - I already asked Matrix that same question and he said that you can retire when ever you want but if you do that then it counts as if you retired in 2020AD!!!

I sympathise Cornmaster. Two quotes about this:

"I'm really really sorry, but when you just retire, it's just not fair. Either you win, you lose, or you reach 2020AD, but in the GOTM it would be wrong to place people who just did not finish in the ranking."

You'll need to finish the game in a valid way: by conquest, spaceship (yours or AI's), or retirement in 2020 AD. You may not retire on any other occasion.

I feel I need to defend myself here...

First of all, art sent in his game for the GOTM II, but hasn't finished his game either. Because of him I decided to treat it this way: pretend he finished in 2020 AD. But I forgot it said in the rules page it wasn't allowed. So I used the same rule for myself.

But art as well as myself have a very low score (naturally), so I don't mind if you decide not to let those games count.

I see.

Well I had a very low score too!!! Will you include my GOTM3? (Naturally not my GOTM2 as that's dead and gone.)

Sure. But I want the others to agree.

I don't understand what I'm being asked to agree to!

My position is this, and it's the same position I took when Matrix wanted to retrospectively adjust the scoring formula. If you have published rules before a game, I believe those rules should apply to everyone for that game, not just out of fairness but also because people will base their actions upon what they know.

I certainly don't believe in retrospectively changing the rules. If a mistake was made then the mistake should be put right, but I don't believe that a concession should be made to anyone one else to make the same mistake.

I don't mind the rules changing provided they are done publicly before the game starts, but once a game has started then the rules should be stuck to for everyone - no exceptions.
