Hi ciruela, two things:
  • When I try to start the HotD Westeros scenario as Rhaenyra, I get a crash to desktop. This doesn't happen on either of the other leaders I've tried (the Starks, and the Kingslanding Targaryens).
  • Is it possible to have a version of the HotD scenario without the scripted events? I.e. so that we can choose how the events unfold?

First of all, thanks for your feedback. this will help and encourage me to make mod better and give me more confidence.

1. I'll check the CtD problem. (I don't occur the CtD when playing as Rhaenyra, send you a Rhaenyra save, hope can work)
2.In Westeros scenario, the python event controls a lot of things, to make the player immerse the fixed story of the Book and TV Drama.
In DotD Westeros scenario, python code controls less and mainly the political state of each house, exclude city conquest such as King's Landing, Dragonstone etc., and the death of each Dragon, to make more path choice for player.
In other scenario, no Python event involved, so you can play from a fixed start and to choose your own path.
So I want to know what the event you said exactly is, for example "I played Stark and want to join the greens" or "I played Tully and want to declare war to Greens on Turn 25 with Rhaenyra", so I will understand how to meet your need.

Yeah exactly, a version without the python changes so that you can join/play on the faction you wish.

Because each great house and 2 Iron Throne claimants are permanent peace from start. without using python event to control, these houses don't join the war (although they can declare war through enemy's vassal).
I will keep the python event and add a choice of joint each side for player on the python event turn, such as Crownlander on Turn 25, Riverman/Stormlander/Valeman on Turn 30, Westlander on Turn 35, Northman/Reachman/Dornishman on Turn 40.

Playtest as Queen Rhaenyra I Targaryen (Noble/Normal speed)

Rhaenyra start with only Dragonstone city, where has 11 Dragons(although they are held or immobile now), Prince Daemon (Great Commander), Dark Sister Valyrian steel sword to control the sky, Lord Velaryon(Axeman) and his Royal Fleet to control the sea, Ser Erryk (Kingsguard) and Longbowman to guard the city. There are also 3 Wild Dragon (held Barbarian) at near by Dragonmont.
House Celtigar and House Massey are her vassals. Resource around like this.

Dragonstone start with 2 population, some basic building, Lighthouse and Heron Throne Wonder make sea plot around good yield, The eyes and ears network can spy other civs researching Tech and can steal Techs which more than 3 openborder civs have.

So the most important thing for Turn 0 is openborder with all the possible civs, most Blacks will accept it.
I choose produce workboat to harvest crabs and pearls, research Mysticism for God King civic, which makes great improvement for capital, use Royal Fleet to scout.

Ser Steffon comes to Dragonstone and inform Rhaenyra what happened in King's Landing. Rhaenyra decide her Coronation and declare war to his half-brother. Most Crownlander choose to support Rhaenyra as well as House Caswell and House Fell.

Caraxes\Meleys\Vermax\Arrax can be used now. Daemon ride on Caraxes and draw Darksister next turn, then fly to Harrenhal, Rhaenys and Royal Fleet to guard the Gullet. Rhaenyra dispatch Jacaerys and Lucerys as messager to North, Vale and Stormland.

  • [Python]revamp and optimize the Python event that it will happen at begining of certain player's turn

In Dance of the Dragons Westeros scenario make some difference from other scenarios

  • [Autumn to Winter]:AC increases from 40 to 100 during the Whole 600 turns. Which means only Autumn(Turn 0-60) - Winter(Turn60-600) - Spring(Turn 600) half Season Circle.
  • [Dynamic World]use scenario Python code to make some War/Alliance change on fixed turns according to the Book. such as The Green Council, The Black Queen(this won't involved charactor move or city capture, because AI won't keep them alive for a long time and powerful dragons was the key unit for each side). Most event happens in the begin of certain civs turn, so it will happen on the fixed turn or next turn depends on each player's order in a turn.
  • Block Ashen Veil religion, and can't win by Tower or Religion or Altar or Culture victory, leave Conquest, Domination, Diplomacy, Time victory
  • using Overcouncil as Black Council and Undercouncil as Green Council, every Civ start with Honor and Deception tech and already join council (except those defectors). Alignment used to control civs's choice of each council.
  • More Wonders has been built in proper city.

After v2.0.5, the pace of developing will slow down, except bug fix, feedback response or new information from the raise of the dragon I art book, such as offical dragon color or story details.
next version will contain some XML change/Art addition list above which I was planning to do years ago, it will make old version save unusable.
 
After a long period break for working and studying and staying with my family, I decide return to this project development.
During the break, I tried to design a new game with Unity, but found it would cost too more time and energy for me, a middle-aged man, and fell into struggling trying to balance profit and realizing ideals. Also, watched The Witcher S03 and D&D Movie, and 1st chapter of Diablo4, 1 game of Civ 5. It still need several months for House of Dragons S02 on Air, so it's time for modding now.

In v2.06 will continue to finish Night's Watch theme Mercurian civ and some artwork needed. I have added a Wandering Crow national unit, which can recruit New Recruit unit from other civ's cities, to Night's Watch.

Is there an option to produce a version with less vassals? The number of civs tends to flow over the screen in a slightly unworkable way for me.

I guess you mean 2 Westeros scenarios, It's true some vassals can be merged into their lord's civ, I'll consider this option in my mind. And if you can send me a screenshot, I'll be easy to get what unworkable situation you faced.

after a quick review of a Song of Ice and Fie books, I have finished Game of Thrones Westeros scenario python event re-vamp. What left for v2.06 is test and some small xml change.
 
Been playing some more of this. Ciruela, would it be possible to post a blank version of the Westeros-only map used in the scripted scenarios? And/or convert some of the other scenarios to that map - stripping out the Essosi elements?

I really like the base of it but (as previously mentioned) I find the sheer number of vassals overwhelming and a bit unfun - it also stops the AI being much of a threat as each civ is confined to a few cities. It also makes diplomacy almost impossible. On the Essoss+Westeros map, Westeros feels too small/cramped and the unlush distances of far Essoss are a bit boring.

what does blank version mean, do you mean a map without any civ and city, and only main house born to random place, just like premade map?
