Hemah and Alazkan

I know the basics about Hemah (having read the Cycle of Beltane), but there's one thing that always puzzled me. How did Hemah, a human with real-life nightmares, become friends (or at least, not-enemies and travelling companions) with Alazkan, a Dark Elf assassin?

They weren't friends. They were business partners, Hemah wanted Svartalfarian incense to stop his dreaming, and Alazkan needed a powerful mage to help him steal the statue. Hemah proved himself powerful, and Alazkan probably planned to have many such "business" together.

I think that "probably" is the key word in Seon's explanation. Thanks anyway, Seon. But could someone shed more light into this?
