how the colonies work

Hi, I wanted to know how the colonies work, from what I know, the civilizations that are given freedom become one of the derivative civilizations, but the A.I. do you use this possibility? and what advantage is there in giving freedom to the colonies? lastly where can I find the file for this mechanic. Thank you

I dont remember the AI liberating cities, so probably not

In terms of liberating cities advantage, sometimes, you'll find yourself settling cities on seperate landmass that has good resources in it, but paying expensive overseas maintenance tend to be not worthwhile. liberating tends to be the solution. Once the cities are liberated, the acting civilization always open to trade you the resources it has.
