How to design cities with Blender

What do you need ?

Blender
A good 2D drawing-painting software ( I use PSP8 but Gimp will be perfect too )
this template

This is not a Blender, PSP8 or Gimp tutorial. I consider you know how to use these softwares.

How to start ?

Start Blender and open the o_civ_city.blend file ( template )
The template is a scene design to fit CivIII.
The central square figures a square of the map.
Lights are design to fit CivIII but you can modifiy it to create another ambiance.
Camera allready has the good position and orientation.

Design a city

Design the buildings you need for all sizes and eras you want.

Place the buildings on the square to make a city.

Convert it to PCX

Press F12 to render your scene and modifiy it until you're satisfied.

Press F12 and then Printscreen ( there are other ways to take the picture but this one is the easiest ).
Open you 2D software and paste you picture.

Select your city and save it to a new file. Reduce it at 70% with pixel resize.
This operation will give your picture the texture for CivIII. If you don't, it will look too smooth.
Pixel resize is needed to advoid anti-aliasing, which is a problem for transparency.
Save your picture as a pcx.

Make your city

Repeat these operations for every size/era you need.
Place cities together on a pcx file.
Make sure palette is allright ( 256 colors with transparency on #255 )

Congratulations, you have a city :goodjob:
