Issues with 1080P resoultion

Ok so I been playing civ 5 trying to get the full screen to work with 1080P resolution but when I use it this way it stretches the image past my screens limit despite my 22inch LED HDTV having a native res of 1080P. any ideas?

my tv did this on 16:9 auto mode. then i found the tv crops the image it gets and redraws it to 1920x1080p. i also saw a 1:1 ratio mode on there when i used it the tv is told to just display the signal it gets not to try and crop the edges and resize whats left. look for a 1:1 ratio mode or setting.
