I've been playing with some of the map settings and I'm confused about exactly what some of them do. I've played with cool vs temperate vs hot, and arid vs normal vs wet, and it seems like cool = tundra, and wet = forests (jungle if it's hot) whereas arid = plains & desert. Can anyone definitively say what the combinations result in? Also what does world age do exactly? So far it just looks like it affects how mountainous it is.

Exactly.

Cool/Temperate/Hot affects the ratio of tundra, plains, grassland, and desert tiles.

Arid/Wet affects the ratio of forest/jungle/marsh tiles.

World Age affects the "rockiness" of the world.
3 million - very rocky, lots of hills, long and frequent mountain ranges
4 million - average number of hills/mountains
5 million - very flat, lots of plains and grasslands, a few hills, very few mountains

So Arid doesn't actually reduce the amount of grassland, it just reduces the amount of rough terrain? :p

Thanks for the tips!
