Noob Question: How Do I Load A Map?

Hello,
Everything I've read tells me how to edit a map. Which I've done. But I can't figure out how to load that map.

Is it possible to load the map BEFORE the game starts, choose the CIVs I want to play against, and have all of the Bonuses randomly selected, as if it were a regular game?

The scenarios all seem to require set positions, set CIVs, plus I have to place all the bonuses.

I'd like to play a map of my own creation, with everything else randomized. Is that possible?

The only thing I can think of is to make a mapscript with all of the terrain set, and everything else randomized... maybe some of the python guys can assist you.
