Quick Questions and Answers

Question: when you're looking at the list of what to produce next in a city, are the advisors taking into account all cities' needs? Or just the one for the city screen that you're on.

What makes me ask: I was advised to build a work boat. Two turns later when it was done, I told it to automate, and the boat took off to another city. It's like the advisors were aware that another city needed the boat yet the city I was on could build it more quickly. I did not expect that.

Is there any way to change the default game settings for "play now?"
You can set some of them in the config.ini file (near the bottom). But there's no complete solution (and no "regenerate" option, as in Civ IV).

In my experience, the advisers don't have a clue what they're talking about after turn 50 or so, when I have 3-4 cities and a handful of units. They were useful in my first game of Civ 5, when it was all so fresh and new. Now they're just a distraction or minor amusement (you want me to build THAT? Really?!?). To actually answer your question though, the city screen advisers clearly take the state of your whole empire into account, not just the local city. At least in theory, it appears to be "what can this city build to best help the state of the empire as a whole," which occasionally is also what is best for that local city.

I just conquered France and Napoleon pops up telling me I´ve defeated him etc... I havn´t seen this message before. Also in the same game I conquered Japan and no message appeared. Do all Leaders have those defeat messages or just certain ones?

Sounds like a bug. I always get a pop-up.

ALSO, If I delete the Khan and New World DLC Mods from my mod browser will they be deleted for good?

Sorry if this have been answered before:

- When do you use trading posts? I usually use it with puppet cities to get more money from them. My own citities I mostly use farms and mining. Sometimes I specialize cities with luxury gold with trading posts as well.

- Do I need a harbor in the capital to get a trade route with other cities with harbor?

- Don't understand this SP: Secularism: +2 Science from each specialist. Is this every building slot you add in citites and you get 2+ science from each slot?

- Do you pay maintenance for all land improvements you make or only the one you are using in the city? If paying for all isn't it better to wait with improvements until the city gets big enough to use them for money saving?

Thanks a lot in advance!

1) I tend to spam them all over the place, esp if I want lots of gold to buy CS loyalty with. But I'm not a really good player, and am experimenting with other methods.
2)The capitol must also either have a harbor OR be connected by roads/rails to another city that has one in order for harbors to work as advertized.
3) You have to actually assign a citizen to those slots to get the bonus. Empty specialist slots contribute nothing... just like unassigned tiles produce nothing.
4) The only "land improvements" that cost maintenance (I think) are roads and railroads. Buildings cost maintenance too, but not what you mean by land improvements, I think.
5) And yes, improving more land than you have citizens to work the improved tiles is not an efficient use of workers.

At the same time, having them run back and forth across the map to improve tiles may not be efficient either. You may find it useful to improve tiles before they can be worked because (1) you may want to switch production focus (gold, food, hammers, etc), and (2) so your city can grow into the land around it without additional effort.

I'm not searching through 46 pages to see if this question was answered, but:

Is there a garuntee that if you bombard something, say a GDR with an archer, that you will achieve actual damage even if it's just 1 HP?

No, weaker units, more than an era or so obsolete, will not damage strong defenders. 3-4x strength appears to be where bombardment becomes unreliable. The exception is city bombardment, which does deal a minimum of 1 damage, regardless of city or defender strength.

The Message only apeares when no units are left and you take the civs last city(only with full kill on)

Something else does Heal and Repair promotion add up or does heal looses its function when you upgrade your unit?

How long does it typically take city states to settle? I just finished a game where in the first 5 turns I captured 2 city states with my starting scout because the settlers didn't settle...needless to say I put the 2 captured workers to work immediately.

Was this a bug? Or just something that happens if you can see the settlers in the first turn (they were both 4-5 tiles away from my capital, in opposite directions.

Also, even without cities they still gave me gold for "meeting them"

I don't know what they wait for, I've seen City States sitting around for over 20 turns (pre-2nd patch).

There is a bug with CS positioning scripts on some maps (particularly Earth, in my experience) where CS initial settlers are placed too close to each other or to major civs. CS settlers cannot (or at least do not) move, so if they are less than 3 hexes away from another city, they will not found their city state. If you wait long enough, culture expansion may push the settlers on to valid city spots, in which case they settle immediately. One game I had 6 city state settlers visible from my starting position! When I see it happen, I personally prefer to start a new game. Also keep in mind that going to war and capturing those settlers counts as conquering the city state, for when the rest of them declare permanent war for your insolent aggression towards your weaker neighbors.

How to I start a game with mods on, do I start it in Single Player\.... or mods\....?

How do I load map or mods in Civ5.

I would love it if it was just a file directory misunderstanding on my part. Anyone doing this sucessfully?
