For some reason I can't build them.

I have two sources of coal, and I recently discovered Steam Power.

Do you have Iron hooked up? Need both Iron and Coal to make RR.

Also, what version is this? Vanilla, PTW, or Conquests/Complete?

The Aztecs or Mongols would have iron for you.

Hm? I didn't know you needed iron to build railroads. The civilopedia doesn't... wait. Speaking of iron, I had great luck with iron this time around! My only source expired in 2000 BC! I wasn't pleased. At any rate, thanks. Maybe I could "buy" some from the Iros...

Forget to trade iron. Akwesane is within reach of your cavalries stationed on Cattaragus. Capture that and Oka, and just build a colony near Akwesane. There's your iron.

Yes, I've played quite a few more turns since the posting. However, I did buy iron for some old middle age tech, because I wanted to capitalize on the monopoly of being able to build railroads as soon as possible. I'm already at Replaceable Parts and the Aztecs, my top rival, has only discovered Nationalism. The only railroads and factories in the world are in my territory, and My territory is about 40% RR'd. I think I have more than a competitive position to win. Thanks everyone!
