sand 01: the computer knows best

With no love for the charge of the Chinese knights vs the AI Tanks, a new tactic is called for. Unfortunately, I can't think of one.

Alex is feeling sorry for us and is building us a rail system.

Genghis builds the UN. I vote for ....... well us I guess. And we win. Now if we can get Peter to vote for us    .

Fascism comes in. Choice of Radio of Fission, go for Fission as a better trading tech. Trade Fascism to Alex with Democracry for Steel as we need this one badly and the AI has no interest in letting us have it.

So another 63 votes and we win,  .

The Save

Well! Thank you Ghengis for giving us such an opportunity! Much appreciated!

Now what do we do with it? We need 63 votes. Considering Peter hates us (Understatement! Understatement!!) and The Khan isn't about to do something stupid like voting for us, I think our path is pretty much decided.

TO WAR!
Ghengis is scarily powerful, though, so Peter's our best bet... careful with the defense pacts, though.

frankor your up. do you think we can really claw victory. there is one slight problem though.. if peter attacks us that means that he will go against alex. alex will probably take over everything before we get change to claw enough and if he overtakes us. well who knows?

i know victory would be simply the best. after that i would host a diety SG. anyway when this ends i will start another SG your all welcome to join aswell as everyone else. it will be completely different to any other one ever played.

Well, I'll start out by saying this SG was a lot of fun and I enjoyed meeting and playing with you all.

You get the picture? We're wiped out.

Inherited Turn (1990 AD) I check the power ratings:

Sweet. And we're going to provoke Peter why?

Oh yeah, to put the computer gods out of their misery. Well, let's get started. I demand that Peter give us Industrialism in tribute. He goes from Annoyed to Furious. Man, I hope Khan breaks his defensive pact with Peter and that Alex upholds ours with him.

IBT: Khan completes SS Thrusters.

Turn 1 (1991 AD)
Guangzhou completes a shelter and starts a Bomb Shelter -- there's no other choice. The macine god must see the handwriting on the wall.

Lyons begins: Coal Plant <-- no other choice
Infantry promoted: Combat I <-- no other choice
Shanghai grows: 18
Bactrian finishes: Bunker

While defending, Catapult loses to: Mongolian Gunship (24.00/24)
While defending, Catapult loses to: Mongolian Gunship (24.00/24) <-- too bad we didn't have more catapults. The Machine God's roper-doper strategy almost worked.
Judaism has spread: Yaroslavl'
Yaroslavl' lost

At Guangzhou:
While defending, Rifleman defeats (8.40/14): Mongolian Tank
While defending, Rifleman loses to: Mongolian Infantry (20.00/20)

Turn 7 (1997 AD)

Alexnder is at war with Khan too. Peter is out of this one so far but I'll bet he bribed Khan to kill us.
Shanghai finishes: Factory
Guangzhou's borders expand
Paris finishes: Coal Plant

IBT:Khan takes Mycenae from the Greeks.

All of this action took place at either Guangzhou or Krasnoyarsk. Don't ask me to sort it out:

Confucianism has spread: Krasnoyarsk
Krasnoyarsk lost
Confucianism has spread: Krasnoyarsk (Mongolian Empire)

The Red Dot in the inset is evidently Mycenae.

Guangzhou is left with a wounded Catapult as a garrison. Those Mongolian tanks better think twice about messing with him. All Hail The Machine God.

Paris begins: Cannon
Guangzhou finishes: Infantry
Bactrian finishes: Cannon
Kushans finishes: Coal Plant
Paris grows: 23

Bactrian begins: Cannon
Kushans begins: Cannon
Yakutsk begins: Cannon
Cannon promoted: Combat I
Vladivostok grows: 3

IBT:
While defending, Rifleman defeats (3.92/14): Mongolian Gunship

Alex wants to trade. I take it:

And maybe this is what Khan wanted after all:

Turn 10 (2000 AD)
Tech learned: Artillery

Uzbek is defenseless -- Gunships can't capture a city so it'll take a few turns for Khan to move up a ground unit. But those wacky Uzbekians continue building a coal plant.

I'm not even sure why I played the last 5 turns. I guess it's that train-wreck syndrome working again. But notice Khan sort of slowed down the last turn. Maybe he's spent his army on us and the tide has turned in our favor?

Or maybe this game is ended.

Here's the save for the morbidly curious out there. I zipped it to retain the file name.

hopefully we can conqeur khan and win. sadly i think this to be impossible well i think we are well and truly...

ralph your up.

Sand, perhaps I wasn't clear enough. Most of our best units were in the first two cities that Khan took. There are no more Infantry and only a handful of riflemen and knights left, perhaps one in each city.

Unless Ralph really wants to sit through to the end, I say this game is over. We'll be gone before Alex, our ally, but not much before.

Although, one would think a Knight would do better against a Gunship. Just sticking that sword up into the rotor should bring it right down.

i would like to see us die. since i've never lost a game.

and if ralph doesn't want to pla his turns then i'd happpily play them until we die.

Well, I can certainly understand that. We have about 10 cities left and at Khan's current rate of 1 city per turn, you won't have long to wait. It may take longer than 10 turns because Khan's gunships can clean out a city a lot faster than he can move up units to capture it.

i have a feeling if this was nooble we would of won but its to late now.

I'm still not sure if this is winnable. It was fun to try but the AI is simply too useless.

Doesn't build a decent army unless you're already at war
Doesn't build good infrastructure (university, bank) until far too late
Is obsessed with cultural/happiness buildings (theatres, temples)

I think that you need some leeway (every second build, every second turnset, exemptions to science/builds to get UN) to counter this.

Let's face it, at most levels, when we're not worshipping the AI god, we're researching techs like Literature, Paper, Printing Press, Steel because the AI doesn't research these and you can tech-trade back to parity. You can't do this in this game and so are stuck on the same research path as the AI.

Well, on that note ends my first SG ever. No longer will I have to think up some semi-consistant story for every decision the Machine Wannabe gave me, or talk of the Brutish Brutes of Uzbek.

Pity. :(
