Actually two times, but first time I played religious civ, so I was only surprised when my advisor asked two times the same question.
Second time I took the risk hoping for shorter anarchy period (chances were good: I've got 8 turns of "first" anarchy). This is the case I was referring to.
And answer is: no, I didn't try.
