SGOTM 02 - VQ Red

Hmm, after looking at the save I saw a couple of things.

1. I think we should keep pressing on Hatty. Rifles aren't a "brick wall" at all. ;) Even a fresh 4 xp Combat1/Pinch gren has >70% odds against her CD2 rifle, and our CR rifles have 97% odds.
Thebes, Heliopolis, and the holy city would all be useful, and we could start churning out military units from those cities, and we might be able to get a tech out of it. :) I'd like to just finishing her off completely, though.

2. We have grens in place to take HC's city in Osaka-land so we might as well (raze it though, maybe, so other folks waste resources trying to settle it? I'm not sure if we can stand it up in time for it to be useful.)
 
first. forgot to take pics. sorry. it's late. i'm tired. had a hard busy week. been playing 15 turns of civ for almost 2 hours. i'm tired.

Inherited turn.- feel circassin will likely be HC’s first target. In prep check defenses. Only 2 axes defending. Decide to move 1 gren from Toledo to circassin and promote to CG1.

Hatty. Since I have 4gren, 1 sam, 1 knight, and 2 cats avail to attack Memphis which is defended by 4 rifles (1 CG1, 1 CG2, others have combat promos) and 2 CR cats- I attack now since defenses are 0.00%

Decide to save cats, use 3 grens, lose 1 kill 2 rifles, due to odds will wait til next turn to finish off. Now only 2 rifles and 2 cats. Last gren is medic and has 77%. Better safe than sorry. Should fall next turn.

Also see multiple defenders in Tokyo and Kyoto. Since both are only one tile and free from attack until marines or combat 2 and amphibious, planning on using in attack force.

1. Cordoba gren>cav
Barc--- I have gren attack/kill pillaging knight, and return to then & fortify. Then second gren kill annoying cat. Hatty now off Osaka cont.
Attack Memphis. 3 grens, 1 knight, 1 sam kill 2 cats, 2 rifles, and 1 knight with no losses. Keep city. Moving galleon E back to cont.
Kyoto--- whip frigate. Plan to build work boat next to increase growth and whipping.
Have several galleons/frigates wait. Still no sign of attack force from HC. Good. Not ready.

2. Kyoto frigate> gren (to avoid loss of overflow hammers. will switch to work boat next turn)
Khoisan courthouse>gren----this was HC’s feeble attempt. 2 archers. Kill one but leave the other (don’t want to leave only one gren defending).
Have all Memphis attacking units wait in captured city to heal and lower cost of upkeep for a couple while healing.
Moving galleon E back to cont.
Have several galleons/frigates wait.

3. killed second archer before any pillaging. Galleons/frigates---same.
Kyoto> switch to work boat & whip.
Attack force cont to heal in Memphis.
Whip 2 unhappy in Osaka
Madrid at max happy and grow in 1 so whip it.

4. Osaka gren>cav
Madrid gren>gren
Circassin gren>cannon
Should be last turn of healing. Continue with galleons/frigates.
Fortify grens as defenders on Osaka cont.

5. some guy says we are 7th on the most cultured list. Bah!

HC has 4 cavs and 2 rifles Cordoba:eek:
- upgrade spear to pike, axe to gren
- send shuffle units around
- 2 grens, pike, axe, chariot. Now defending (5 defending 6. may hold…)
whip Salamanca for the over flow(done in 2 turns but with 2 frigates approaching will need replacement workboat)
toledo done in 2, whip for overflow (want to get some cavs)
couple gpt trades. Not much but will help.
trade stone to mao for 4 gpt
trade stone to bismark for 2 gpt.
Also want some assistance with HC + KK (and to keep ‘em busy). Monopoly will soon be gone so trade steel to bismark for war with HC + KK + 50 gold (all he had)+

Cordoba held, but only have chariot to defend against 2 rifles and one cav. Couple grens on the way, but I fear it will fall.

7. in Toledo whip cav.
Gren lost to rifle at 78% odds. :(
HC razed Cordoba. :(

The attack force will begin the siege of heliopolis next turn. Troops stationed on hill NW of city. I think we should get peace and recover after this city…
Hoping bismark will keep HC and KK busy…

9. Memphis revolt over>theatre (whipped)
Madrid gren>cav
Reshuffling on Osaka cont. preparing for possible second wave and capture of HC city on our cont.
Bombard helio to 33% from 60%
Whip Kyoto. This is a great whipping city… Thinking helio will fall in 2. if continue with hatty til gone Kyoto will have to supply the troops. This will be next players choice, along with option of rebuilding cities razed. It really helped our gpt situation while it lowered our score (population + land)

10. hatty retook Alexandria. No problem. We will retake in about 5. next turn helio will fall. Did some whipping on Osaka and Kyoto.

11. heliopolis is ours. Shuffling troops to retake Alexandria.

HC built city in place of el-armana. Use gren to kill one of 2 rifles defending. Will take city. Also, in 5 will have all HC cities on Osaka.

12. HC managed to kill a galleon in the ring. Okay, killed his frigate. Continued whipping and attacks preps.

13. now have couple 2 cannons, 1 cav, & 4 grens S of Alexandria. Will be retaken in 3 turns.
sending attack force S from helio to elephantine. We will now have one force going N and one going S in Egypt. KK has settled in area of Cordoba ruins. Will take soon. Razed one HC city and second will fall in 2-3 turns. He will then be gone from Osaka cont.
WW is starting to really kill us. Next player may want to switch to peace for a while to recuperate.

14. now in position for Alexandria.
Now in position for HC city on S of Osaka cont.
Mao and bismark are trying to settle Osaka cont.
More unit whipping…
Southern attack force in ring continue moving S. 2 turns from attack position of elephantine.

15. captured anyah…whatever from HC.
Bombarding Alexandria. Will retake within 2, I think…
KK’s taflis should fall in 2-3…
Elephantine should fall in 4-6.

Kyoto is set to be whipped next turn. It should be whipped every other turn. It can maintain size 8 and be whipped every other turn. That’s a unit every 2 turns.

Maybe we should get peace after this and build west point and more troops. In 15-20 turns it’s possible to have hatty gone. Just pay the peace price to KK and HC so we can regroup. not sure how much longer we can handle the WW. both HC and KK are busy with bismark so they all 3 should be slowing on techs. HC is now off osaka cont. KK will be shortly.

Thebes is now on unit production (assuming since hatty's power is going up even with the direction of the war). if we don't stop it soon we will have a hard time of it.

Maybe peace with HC now and KK when he's gone again… you guys discuss.

Phew, okay. These turns are kind of frusterating... fighting 3 enemies at once is kind of silly. I played to 1700 AD, seemed like a nice number. We really need to think about getting some peace soon if possible.

HC will not give us peace unless we give up the city we took from him (Anda-what-not.) Khan will not give us peace unless we give him the Egyptian city of Memphis (we should have taken it when we could have settled for just 200 gold.) Hatty will give us peace, but only 140 gold and her map.

1. I captured some cities from Egypt, but then Khan send a fleet and captured Memphis (it had revolted from cultural pressure the turn he landed, leaving the defenders weak and prevent a :whipped:! :scream:) Hatty is down to two cities, one of which will fall in 1-3 turns. The other, Thebes, has an invasion force inside, so we need to either back away so it sails off, or just bring lots of forces.

2. I started teching to Combustion. Assembly Line was a couple hundred of turns off, so I figure Combustion is the last tech we can realistically get. Steam Power (which is on the way) also enables Ironclads, while Railroad will give us, well, railroads. ;)

3. We have a great Artist on the way to Hatty land along with some reinforcements. He's in a galleon escorted by a frigate. We could also save him for a Golden Age, as well.

Could someone be so kind as to post an update of the roster? Who's playing and in what order?

What is our current strategy (except for the spoon)? And do we all agree on it? :crazyeye:

Thanks for the roster GreyFox. As far as strategy goes, some discussion is probably in order as we've been a bit silent. I guess my take on things is:

1. Just keep building cannons & grens and taking on the donut with Bismarck next (we can save Thebes for another time, Hatty is toast now) and hope no one launches before we get around it. We'll have to fight Infantry with cannons at some point (ick) but, well, that's life I guess.

2. We need to fight only one foe at a time if possible. All these naval incursions are really slowing us down along with WW from multiple sources, but unfortunately since there power is so high due to rifle upgrades they won't make peace for anything less than a city.

Any ideas?
 
from the sounds of we can not get peace with HC or KK without giving a city, peace is not an option and we will have to deal with WW.

My thoughts
i think with getting a unit every other turn from kyoto we can safely turn our focus to one of HC or KK. i think take the fight to the one most likely to bring it to us. (i memphis should be retaken first) this way we can choose the battle conditions. as cannons or grens will only take 2 turns to whip, drop stack of grens to take out his attacking force while we whip more grens and cannons.

stack could be dropped on hill, forest, jungle, or ideally a forested hill. these units would be for defensive purposes. let him thow his rifles to thier death. after he thows initial attack, might include a cav to allow moving one tile (all the grens/cannons) the cav can stay with the stack and pillage. this will help finiance the war effort.

if we don't keep the whipping going, we will fail. it is crucial we keep the whipping going and stay this size. this size allows more :commerce: to be pulled from those costal tiles, thus supporting our troops.

my reasoning for memphis would be holy city equals :gold:, which equals troops.

any idea how close we are to troops striking? this could change alot. if our troops are disbanding themselves, i don't think we can even try to take anyone out.

Memphis was already retaken (which was actually probably for the best since it let us wipe out 3 cats, 2 grens, 1 cavalry, 2 frigates & 2 galleons for the low cost of 1 gren and 1 samurai.)

Our economy is decent. It's running at 30% research 20% culture at the moment. Peace with Hatty will end most WW I think.
