SGOTM 12 - One Short Straw

couldn't resist since gandhi's research was so close. Only took 1 turn from Mao, he is researching compass 9 turns left. on T159

edit: good thing I did with 50% discout I don't have enough to steal philosophy.

London has ToA which give s free priest spec. If the change was 200/50=40h/26h~=1.5, which makes sense because he's in OrgRel. So it's probalby 1.5 factor. 40h/1.5=27h, so maybe he's running an engineer instead of one of the coastal tiles.

Yup, could be a world or national wonder.

T160 Churchill learned MC and Rosey learned Guilds

was it wrong or right to steal philosophy? Now we know from our moral philosophy classes! :D
cost 505 espionage

I'm uploading at the beginning of T164 and my turn is over. Let the debates begin.

Highlights...

MoM finished last turn 1030 AD T163 (build finished btwn that and this turn)
Moai finished in Bermuda But no failure gold!!!
We have a bit of failure gold waiting with Parthenon but that might be decaying...
Great Scientist born for us

T164 Mao just finished engineering :(

T163 Mao revolted to Bureacracy
We lost a spy T160 in Mao's lands :( (he was almost safe :( ) They got him trying to sneak out through the fallout...
He has a 3 CG 1D longbow in Guanghou at least he did T158
along with 7 other longbows and a catapult. Not sure what he has now.

Rosey built the Chichen Itza

Rosey and Gandhi are in Theocracy and in war prep for awhile no wars declared

London is building some wonder not (MoM)
Chengdu (Mao) might be building a wonder too (1236 sabotage)

I slightly screwed up our research
I researched half of Chemistry
none of PP
And only put what research we produced at 0% into Liberalism (we got a bit of failure gold from MoM so we have 1 100% turn we can do for Liberalism this turn)

Pop is up to 91

Gems mine near Rheims got destroyed by infiltrators
Granary in Orleans got destroyed by spies
(and I missed that Orleans was only 3 pop in real game, so pikeman came from Rheims)

edit: I shaved a turn of the Treb getting to Orleans DoW T166 I think now.

Excellent turn set, bcool. You set us up nicely for the Mao campaign.

Next turn? :dunno:

I tested this when it first came up and it worked. IIRC, national wonders did seem to give the fail gold the following turn. It could also have to do with where the cities are in F1 list order. I didn't test beyond knowing that we would get our fail gold for national wonders.

@LC

Rather than razing Lyons, could we instead gift it to Roosevelt as one city in the chain? That is if we go the route of the gift city chain thing.

Okay tried to make a test game, Bananas in the test is +13 hammers (makes me think I made a mistake...)

Pigs is off by in the test +2 hammers

Military units are close to right locations, workers maybe close haven't really looked at them.

I'll try to update the units tomorrow morning. But getting the test game close is getting to be a huge chore now.

I thought I took detailed notes (page per turn, notes by each city) but I still only was able to reproduce half of the cities production and MM. Hard to do serious editing with worldbuilder (not sure how to do negative hammers :crazyeye: )

The more I think about it the more I think an immediate golden age is a good idea. We are currently in a twin race for the liberalism slingshot and the economics GM. An extra 100 beakers now are worth a lot more to us than 200 beakers later. We would also get the benefits of corporations sooner with an earlier golden age.

If we immediately start a golden age and hire 6 specialists in pigs, and 7 in GP farm then we get:

T+4: GP from pigs to bulb printing press.
T+9: GP from GP farm (requires temporairily firing a few specialists in pigs)
T+10: GP from pigs.

The last 2 GP's could be used for bulbing scientific method. If we time things carefully this would allow us to get biology from liberalism on T+11.

Rooservelt is currently pleased with us. We could ask him to gift us 150 gold.

Time to up the ante, guys. :)

What we really want is to steal Communism before the golden age is over, so we can revolt to SP for free. With some good fortune, I think it's doable.

Requirements:
1. Mao down to 3 cities by T178
2. Moscow-2S1SE settled by T173 w/spy and COnfucianism
3. Cease-fire with Mao on T178
4. We'll have to run 100% espionage for 2-3 turns
5a. Cost: ~1600eps
5b. Cost w/Mao out of Confucianism: ~1300eps

The hardest part is getting Mao down to 3 cities in time. Here we hope for some help from Roosy.

The General Plan, as I see it now:

T164 Our ships sail! (1@pike, 2@5/2XP maces, 2@5/2XP cats, 1@5/2XP treb)
T165 DoW Mao
T166 Paris builds a Buddhist monastery!
T166 Units land between Shanghai and Beijing, our SoD crosses the SE border.
T167 GP Farm is pop13; OSS's golden age begins, revolt to CS+Pac
T168 Capture Shanghai
~T172 Capture Beijing (has Scotland Yard now!!!)
T177 or before Roosy captures Xian
T177 Capture Guangzhou

This would be ideal, forcing Mao out of Confucianism.

bcool, I'd like to congratulate you on a paragon of starting and ending a complicated turnset seamlessly in the middle of a difficult SG. :king:

Moai finished in Bermuda But no failure gold!!!
It could also have to do with where the cities are in F1 list order.
Sharp thinking Mitchum. I tested this and it's correct. So it's not exactly a bug, but it is a bummer, but good to know for the future. We only want to "design" failed gold in cities after the one completing the wonder. Easiest way to do that is to build them in Moscow.

Live and learn!

Rather than razing Lyons, could we instead gift it to Roosevelt as one city in the chain? That is if we go the route of the gift city chain thing.
Yes, if we gifted him, for example, a city we settled at Shanghai-3E. Then we could chain-gift him:

Chengdu-Hangzhou-Shanghai3E-Lyons-SiberiaSSE
