Strategic View!! Screenshots!

What are those brown resources that there is a lot in the first picture. Is it cattle as its harvested by camps?

...and the purple liquid is Dye

so far I have found the following resources:

fish
clam

horse
iron

wheat

stone
marble

sugar
dye
gold
gems
game

cattle
sheep (well, 2 kinds? white and brown?)

banana

is that blueish long metal... silver?

On minimaps:
I reckon that on the Early pic the whole (!) minimap shows only part of the world,
while on the Middle and Late pic it shows the whole world,

Do minimaps zoom out as time passes? As in civ4, with calendar?

Vienna and Oslo - nice! How many city states do you think there are? more than you'll need in a playthrough? will they be individual apart from name and class (the 3 mentioned before by greg)? Surely no animated leader, but a custom artwork?
May I request city-state choosing in custom games?

Will we be able to make remarks in strategic view?

Does it also seem to you guys that the landscape seems more natural? larger agglomerations of similar terrain? I like it!

And Greg, I'd pay you a beer right now just to see how all these trading post in screen three look in 3d view! ;)

1842AD - Different shapes of unit icons - triangle=civilian, circle=military, shield=military fortified??, Large circle near Satsuma=????

The one that looks like a pike with a banner waving from it? My guess would be either a pike, but more likely a general.

The more I look at the screenshots, the more awesome they seem!!! (yes with three exclamation points!!!)

:thanx:

Logic says to me that the big pike circle is not for the tile, but for the city:
Spikes defending Satsuma...

Were spikes on and for the tile, they would be in the upper quarter of the tile...

EDIT
Above every city you can see a small "play" button, perhaps with that you can trigger the big icon of the unit defending the city.

By the way, is one luxury ressource enough for a whole empire? I guess it was stated already, but I can't find/remember it.

Are there more ressources than usual for demo purposes?

(Middle age pic - blue resource under Argos) Aah. Gems or Silver, maybe? Too early for aluminum (if either of them are even in. . . )

(Early & Late age pics) - the brownish resource in the plains around Nagoya/Osaka are (I believe) Elephants. There is a pasture improvement which would make more sense for cattle than a camp.

My bets: Silver & Elephants

If the whole game could be played only in this view, I could probably run it on my netbook!
Please make it so!

There is a chance, and it's very high. I'd say it's somewhere between 94.6% and 100%, considering it's in the build I'm playing right now :)

The rest of the overlays are very cool as well; it makes it very convenient to get an overview of your empire, or a battlefield. I especially like the "Resources" overlay, which colors the tiles based on the type of resource that's in it. Trying to find a spot with a higher-than-average number of food-boosting resources? Just turn on the "Resources" overlay and look for the green spots!

It would be cool if that political overlay showed just the name of nations, printed huge upon the civ-specific coloured terrains (water excluded). In other words, something like an historic atlas. People would be posting stories just showing the evolution of borders.
No other stuff (cities (maybe except the capital), units, resources) should be shown.

That would be really nice.
And it is nice to see you around, Rhye :)

If CiV came to the iPad in those graphics, I would be extremely tempted to buy that thing no matter how ridiculously overrated and overpriced I think that device is X-)

If it is possible to play in that mode without restrictions other than visual, I can picture myself playing 80% of the time looking at that board-game style while my graphics card is bored to death. :-D

Notice how many black regions there are in the world in the final screenshot, there must be at least as much if not more city states as there are civilizations, considering only about half of the map is properly explored. This is welcome news! :)

They also seem to be heading towards adding 'important' cities in general (Oslo, Vienna, Rio de Janeiro etc.) besides just historically important city states(Venice, Florence,Singapore etc.) to the city state list. This would make the game a bit more internationally appealing I'd say, as almost every major or recognizable city outside of the already added civs would probably be added as a city state in game.
