Hey!

Thx for the greatest mod(TAM) i have ever seen :)
Now i have upgraded to Civ4 Complete from Civ4.
and i installed TAM BTS version 0.90c.

It works really fine. But suddenly my laptop shuts down without warning?
I think my laptop gets warm, but i have cleaned it for dust, stapled it on books and a fan blowing to it. Still it shuts down.

Then i play TAM for normal CIV4 without problem?! THen i wonder if anyother have the same problems as i? ;S i have never encountered this problem before i played TAM in BTS!?

Help? ;S

I have Win7 Ultimate and enough power in my laptop...

I've recently played TAM 0.90C on a Vista Laptop a bit, and it has runned fine.
Try to set a XP emulation when playng TAM to see what happens

I've tried SP1+2+3 and Vista mode and it still doesn't work ;( I think its maybe a broken script?

I have also searched in my laptop logbook. It says its "Event-id: 6008".

But its only when i play TAM scenario...

Ori >
Thx :)

It ONLY happens when i play TAM! :S
It shows no message and it only shutsdown. It doesn't reboot.
I have WIN7 Ultimate.

I can play the game, but it's annoying that it shuts down |(

I wonder if i am the first with this problem?

the shutdown is very likely the same thing as a reboot, just that it fails at actually making it reboot, try turning it off:
http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows7/ht/automatic-restart-windows-7.htm
does it show an error then?

restarts/shutdowns are usually due to either graphics card or mainboard overheating, memory failures or power supply problems. The fact that a specific program causes this might just mean that it for whatever reason is the only one that actually activates a specific damaged module or taxes a component just that bit more.

Thx! I'll try that :)

I'll tell you after i have played some TAM :p

Hope i finally can get rid of Teuta without my comp go down ;S

did it show any error message when it crashed?
try to look in the windows event manager for any event that happened around the time it crashed - if you are unsure about the time, note the most recent event logs and then just cause the crash again and look for new ones and post them here.

Executive Summary: its not good news

Hardware issues could also cause this error. Several users reported that their problems were fixed after replacing a hardware component (mostly the power supply).

Marc Reumann (Last update 5/26/2004):
In my case, it was a defective graphics adapter that could not return from suspend mode and so the server shut down.

the 6008 ID is also caused by programs using the force shutdown routine without exiting something that requires authentication. E.g. logon after sleep/suspension mode. Looking through all these error reports online my best guess is:
something (most likely the graphics card) puts the computer into sleep mode and then crashes - leading to this problem. What I can say for certain is that never, ever, ever should the Game itself do so - if any game itself forces a shutdown for any reason I'd call it malware, but I am sure its not a feature of this game.
My hunch is that there is some memory address on either the graphics memory or the RAM that is defective and that for whatever arcane reason only this modded game tries to access that.
That said, maybe we can pinpoint this more precisely, but as I said I suspect its a hardware problem, but maybe its just driver related:
please post your directx results file as a file attachment.

I will throw a couple of pennies into this equation. I have been testing TAM for three years now so I play it and other CIV4 mods almost all the time. Two years ago I purchased a new computer, and I would experience a screen freeze while playing Civ4/Tam at least once or twice a week. I could never figure out what to do to stop it, every couple of months check for updated drivers was about it. It wasnt often enough to bother me to a severe level, I would simply turn the machine off (it wouldnt reboot) and start fresh again.
This past Thanksgiving day it crashed so hard that it reset my display drivers to the lowest possible levels, and nothing I did would allow them to be reset.

It ended up being a bad video card. I purchased the same make and model except that it was a newer retail version and everything has been fine once i got it installed and the monitor reset.

I had/have a NVIDIA 8400 GS

From what I am reading on this thread, it sounds like the video card could be your issue as well.

Thx Ori and graywarden!

After i have read your text, I think that the problem is what you guys says it is.
My videocard.
I'll contact the company who made my laptop...

But maybe i can get a better graphic card than my ATI Radeon HD3200? :D

But thx both of you :)
