TerraNES: The Civil Experiment

From Valyria to Toras-North
We agree with your treaty on most of the terms. However, what form of repayment would you want to reinstate our pre-war borders? We would prefer that more, and are willing to give up more, and we swear not to march against Toras-North, Apulia, and Lijuria unless they march against us first, and we would offer 2-4EP for war damages.

Ctesiphod prefers Toras-Noth's treaty.

I'm starting on the update already; Northern Europe->Plague Lands (India->Mesopotamia, then Aegean->Levant)->Egypt->Wars of the Levantine League;China

Orders I still need:
MjM: Huai Kingdom in China (Didn't he say something about NESes dying? :p)
Luckymoose: Katan in the Upper Levant (Yeah, might put Anatolia seperate since you just made the region important)
Electric: Gyrid in Aegean
That's about it. However, Gyrid's actions can influence the speed of the spread to Cyprus, which will affect the Levantine League rather drastically. As for China, it is seperate so I just need MjM to finish that section.
I will VM all these people as of now.
As for the Plague Lands, it would take me till late tonight for the lack of orders to start to matter. Please send them in before tomorrow morning.

To: Valyria
From: Torasnoth

A reversion to pre-war borders would be an insult to those Samnites who fought for their independence, and the Zirilists who gave their lives to claim Ziril's mountain of Vesuvius. Which terms of the treaty that we proposed do you not agree with?

We would like to remain in control of Kora-Torr to rebuild it and try to foster new relations with the Samnite people. We'll give you Odane's Mountain (OOC: Mt Vesuvius) and give you access to the sea through a corridor to the ocean that will not be troubled by you so long as we have our pre war borders. Agreed?

We propose the following map. Kora-Torr is under Valyrian control, with the promise to rebuild, and Torasnoth-controlled border-land is ceded to Valyria.

ALSO
To Ctesiphod/United Apulia
Will you accept the border change as shown in the map?

OOC: And with the careful time spent making sure the pixels were right... they go and get deformed with the upload!

OOC: No worries Moldath, that happens from time to time :).

IC: We would like Navarin back as well, you can keep Jarlsven and Odane's Mountain. If you give us back both Navarin and Jarlsven, we will give you five EP in return.

Navarin was a central city for the southern peoples during the war. It became a 'second' Toras due to it's proximity to Mount Odane, and as such has become important in the hearts of Zirilists - nevermind the festivities of Zirilwine! Refugee Samnites have also settled there, and have made it their home. There is no way we could cede Navarin now.

The people of Arlsfen have long supported the past Torasetars. To give their land up would be a great betrayal to those people.

We have already allowed concessions of land - much of which our supporters disagree with. To cede any more would greatly anger our populace. We ask again, if you would accept the latest proposal. To restate:

Torasnoth cedes Verlincha to Valyria

Torasnoth cedes land around controlled area to Valyria (as per map)

Valyria promises to rebuild Kora-Torr, and foster new relations with Samnites

Valyria recognizes Lijurian control over southern Lijuria and Korsi

Lijuria recognizes Valyrian control over Vikersmount

Valyria gives up claims to the remaining land controlled by United Apulia and Torasnoth

Any Valyrian peoples, Zirilist or Faithful, wishing to migrate to the Kingdom of Valyria or to Torasnoth (Naffran), for a period of ten years must be given safe journey and protection from any state administration (force conversions, executions etc.)

We shall agree to these terms against our better judgement... may the peace last forever though into ages far ahead of us, and may we stand strong against whatever time and future generations throw at us.

Will the Grey Faith stay in power, or will they be relived and replaced by the former monarchy? We will tolerate no Grey or Red or any other color faith dictating the death of entire races. We believe this treaty is far too leniant in that regard.

Essentially, different factions of the Faith compete for election, and the Grey Faith controls about 65% of the Faith, and the Red Faith controls 5% of the Faith. They can remain in power, but the monarchy is being restored by a branch from House Greyfang. Leniency is rather not a part of the deal at the moment, as the Faith lost plenty of good people and commanders, including most of the ruling Grey Faith. Take that as you will; 99% of the Grey Faith leadership was annihilated by assassins, and very few escaped. They are still around though, and still have a majority in power.

"Father?"

Raen Kamil appraoched his fathers bedchamber. It was high noon, and his father would always get up early – no matter what. As it was, not a sound had been heard from him the entire morning. Raen repeated

"Father, are you alright?"

Still no response. Torasetar IX was an aging man, and had been healthy his entire life. However, it it said that as he returned from yet another peace negotiation with the Northern Kingdom, he fell ill. Raen entered the chamber. Torasetar IX was lying in his bed, not moving. Presumably sleeping. Raen appraoched the bed, and, heart beating, placed his hand upon his fathers forehead. It was warm - not nearly as hot as it had been the previous day! Sighing slightly, Raen sat on the bed. Not a graceful person, while sitting down he distrubed his father – causing him to roll over to the floor. The Torasetar lay on the floor – not moving. It was then that Raen noticed it. His father was not breathing.

The Council of Ziril's Will met later that week to decide on who would be Torasetar X. This election, the families immediately took sides. The Kamil and Loor families were united in wanting a quick peace with the Northern Kingdom. Aeras, Thras, and Faran were against this.

"For what have we fought all these years for?" Elder Aeras shouted across the room. "Are we to make peace now – give land back to the demons who slaughtered Samnites and Zirilists whenever given the chance? We will only have peace when they release all of Samnia, and repay the people whom they mercilessly slaughter!" There were nods of agreement from Elders Faran and Thras.

"They will not accept this." Elder Loor slowly began to speak. "They still have an army to speak of, and their blind, cruel Faith pushes them to no end. My uncle watched as they destroyed Kora-Torr... and as much as I wish to avenge those who have fallen, I do not think we can continue to fight this beast." The Kamil elder slowly nodded. He then added "As much as I hate to make a hasty peace, I do believe it will be the only way."

Discussion continued for the rest of the day. Even when the elders first walked in to council, they knew the outcome. It was a clear 3v2 in the voting. To maintain some support from the Kamil and Loor houses however, the Faran candidate was chosen over the Aeras, for he was not as radical as house Aeras' stance towards the Northern Kingdom. Of note was that Kamek Faran, the chosen candidate, had a Samnite wife.

Kamek Faran was chosen to be Torasetar. Torasetar X Faran.

From The Council of Ziril's Will
To Valyria

The recent death of Torasetar IX has caused all current diplomacy to be suspended. Torasetar X will re-establish negotiations soon.

Ziril bless us all.

(edit - re-established negotiations)

To Valyria
From Torasetar X

I apologize for the confusion that has arisen with the passing of my predecessor. The negotiations have been going on for sometime, however there are details which need to be re-examined:

The City of Verlinchva will become an independant Samnite City

Bellevetum and the peoples of Kora-Torr will reunite as Samnia

Every Samnite and Zirilist within Valyria will be given safe joureny, free from the hands of the Faith, to Torasnoth or Samnia

Valyria will pay 4 ep to Samnia for damages and an additional 2 to rebuild the town of Kora-Torr

From Valyria to Toras-North
We can't accept this. You are infringing upon our sovereign nation now, stacking the insults on top of each other. We could agree to the third point, even the fourth. But we fought a bloodstained war to take back our cities after the Samnite dogs betrayed us... would you really release a torrent of blood upon the world as the cruel death from the East smashes into us?

Already, House Black Flame and House Dragon are marshaling, and the young Lark is now in power in Sarkov. The call has been sent forth, and people are marshalling... we implore you to see reason in this darkest hour; we could agree with the previous terms, though our cities and our nation's sovereign power had been infringed upon... we can't take the terms you have laid before us! You push us to the brink of collapse at this point, and what happened when push came to shove earlier? The Grey Faith formed, and burned Kora-Torr to the ground. Then, when our soldiers were forced to march on empty stomachs, the Red Faith formed and we saw how that went... what do you think will happen now? No peaceful offshoot of the Faith will arise from this, quite the contrary; the blood of Martyrs on both sides of this conflict shall stain the ground.

We fought a giant, goddamned war over this land, and we can not be pushed out and let the people that fell for our nation to die for nothing... We implore you to see reason before it is to late!

Gods be with us all, in this our darkest hour...
