"Father?"
Raen Kamil appraoched his fathers bedchamber. It was high noon, and his father would always get up early no matter what. As it was, not a sound had been heard from him the entire morning. Raen repeated
"Father, are you alright?"
Still no response. Torasetar IX was an aging man, and had been healthy his entire life. However, it it said that as he returned from yet another peace negotiation with the Northern Kingdom, he fell ill. Raen entered the chamber. Torasetar IX was lying in his bed, not moving. Presumably sleeping. Raen appraoched the bed, and, heart beating, placed his hand upon his fathers forehead. It was warm - not nearly as hot as it had been the previous day! Sighing slightly, Raen sat on the bed. Not a graceful person, while sitting down he distrubed his father causing him to roll over to the floor. The Torasetar lay on the floor not moving. It was then that Raen noticed it. His father was not breathing.
The Council of Ziril's Will met later that week to decide on who would be Torasetar X. This election, the families immediately took sides. The Kamil and Loor families were united in wanting a quick peace with the Northern Kingdom. Aeras, Thras, and Faran were against this.
"For what have we fought all these years for?" Elder Aeras shouted across the room. "Are we to make peace now give land back to the demons who slaughtered Samnites and Zirilists whenever given the chance? We will only have peace when they release all of Samnia, and repay the people whom they mercilessly slaughter!" There were nods of agreement from Elders Faran and Thras.
"They will not accept this." Elder Loor slowly began to speak. "They still have an army to speak of, and their blind, cruel Faith pushes them to no end. My uncle watched as they destroyed Kora-Torr... and as much as I wish to avenge those who have fallen, I do not think we can continue to fight this beast." The Kamil elder slowly nodded. He then added "As much as I hate to make a hasty peace, I do believe it will be the only way."
Discussion continued for the rest of the day. Even when the elders first walked in to council, they knew the outcome. It was a clear 3v2 in the voting. To maintain some support from the Kamil and Loor houses however, the Faran candidate was chosen over the Aeras, for he was not as radical as house Aeras' stance towards the Northern Kingdom. Of note was that Kamek Faran, the chosen candidate, had a Samnite wife.
Kamek Faran was chosen to be Torasetar. Torasetar X Faran.
