The French Republic

1968 AD
This is the last post in The French Republic. A new story will begin soon...

After the Allied victory in the Soviet Union, the Soviet Union was in crisis point. Few cities were still Soviet-run, and if they were, the Allies didn't care to make a move on them. Moscow had fallen, the capital of the Soviet Union. That's all they needed. Only 3 cities were still Soviet run.

Kazan, Uralsk and Batum - the 3 Soviet controlled cities.

The Soviet Union moved their place-of-government from Moscow to Batum. The first city to riot against the Soviet government in 1968 was Uralsk. The protesters were unhappy that the Soviet Union was still intending to launch attacks against NATO troops, fearing it would cause unnecessary loss of life. The protests quickly died down.

The second city to riot was Kazan, also unhappy about the Soviet government's intentions to 'retake their land'.

But the more serious, coup attempt, was in Batum.

July 1968 Soviet coup d'état attempt
(I'm not trying to mirror the 1991 coup attempt in the actual Soviet Union, this is merely a coincidence. Although the reasons as to why it happens are slightly similar. :) )

The July 1968 Soviet Coup attempt from 2 July - 4 July was a coup attempt in Batum by the remaining military, police officers and secret police to overthrow the newly moved Government after the announcing of their new 'расслабление' reforms (relaxation reforms) after the two riots in Kazan and Uralsk over the 'retaking of our land' announcements. The Soviet law enforcement and army were highly interested in taking back their land, and when the Soviet government announced they would not pursue these interests, the army began the coup.

Soviet tanks move into positions around Batum

The Soviet government was surprised at the reaction from the army, and announced they would not step down from government. Soviet federal soldiers were pitted against the Soviet army, however no fighting occurred.

At the end of the failed coup on 4 July, the Soviet government had no army, no police force that was loyal and it descended in to Anarchy. The government had been decentralized and, at a meeting of all the highest government officials on 12 October 1968, the announcement was made to the world of the formal dissolution of the Soviet Union and the creation of the Russian Federation.

Victory is total.
