Welcome to the 236th game in the GOTM V Training Series! This Series allows new and old Civilization V fans to try out many features from Civ5's expansions and DLCs in a friendly environment. Participants are encouraged to post questions, stories, advice, tricks and failures in the dedicated game threads (described below). Each game will specify the Civ you will play and the Victory Condition to strive for. You can read more about the GOTM and Training Series concept in this thread.

MUST READ!
Our most sacred rule: Do not replay any turns!
If you make a mistake, accept it, and try to recover through game-play. To ensure fair play and prevent results exclusions, please set your Autosaves to "1 turn". In the event of a computer crash while playing, just reload to the previous autosave, then play on the same way you played it the first time. Please let Leif or me know (either in the forums or through Private Message) if you experienced a crash and how many turns you replayed.

Information about threads associated with each individual TSG - Must Read if you are new to the Game of the Month!
Spoiler :

Please note: If you wish to make a video of your game, please do not post any links to it until after the game submission date has passed. This is because of the potential spoilers that are created by posting before the end date. Thank you for your cooperation.

TSG Announcement thread (this one): This thread is used to announce the game and clarify the settings and rules (don't be afraid to ask questions). Its also used to discuss the game before you start, and post problems with opening the save. Please don't post any game-related info once you open and play the save. Instead use the next thread.

Opening Actions thread: This thread is used to discuss the game's opening decisions and strategies through the first 100 or so turns. Here you can post questions related to the game and share your achievements/anger/frustration/victories while you play. We encourage players to use the spoiler tags for screenshots. During the time the game is active, please do not post any information concerning the game outside of the spoiler threads including screen shots, videos, or recorded/live-cast Let's Plays on other websites.

After Actions thread: In this thread you can post the results of your game. Please state your victory/loss date (preferably in the post title) and describe your path to glory in this post! Players are encouraged to provide feedback on the game. Some players like to replay the game, and although we will not record the results from a replay, you can still post your new experiences. The game will not be closed as such, but after one month, the results will be compiled, and will not necessarily be updated with reports coming in after the finish date.
File Upload System
Spoiler :
We have a game file upload system you can find here. Please use it to upload your completed first attempt by saving the game on the turn after your victory or defeat. (by using the "lemme play one more turn" feature)

Please note: you must submit your game on the turn following Victory. If you continue to play, the game overwrites the data and your submission could be rejected by the submission system.

This game runs through January 25th 2024.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Guided Missiles aren't used very often in Civ 5, at least in my experience and from what I've seen on this forum over the years. So for a fun little holiday game, I thought it'd be interesting to start with a bunch of them in Ancient era. I had to settle the capital to store the missiles somewhere, so you don't get to pick the location yourself this time. Good luck and have fun!

All right! Those missles wouldn’t happen to nuclear tipped would they  Gandhi would love that! Still will be awesome determining exactly when and how to use them. I guess one of them could take out an early capital!

A fantastic start. Can’t get carried away though and play recklessly. So I’ll play normal until I get the lay of the land and see the neighborhood.

In all my thousands of hours of Civ 5, I believe I have never built or bought a guided missile. I'm curious to see what they can do.

Also, what a beautiful starting location, despite the dyes *spices. Hill, river mountain and double wheat with the promise of Petra. Perhaps if played well, the latter won't be needed, but I'll probably end up going for it anyway.

Same here!

Petra on Deity? Difficult, and probably not a good idea if we're going to focus on domination...

Spoiler :
5 opponents, 5 missiles, I thought the same thing too, but when you get around to the opening actions thread, you'll see it worked out differently for me. Perhaps, if it had been 5 nuclear missiles...

Moderator Action: Please do not post in the Announcement thread once you open the save. You could accidently spoil the game for those that follow. Comment placed in spoiler tags. leif

What an exciting idea! I like thinking about how to use these guided missiles.
60 strength, overkill for early enemy units. Most efficient seems to be enemy city. Rushing opponent capital sounds like an idea. I guess it's gonna take 2 missiles to reduce an early city to minimal hp. Challenge on deity is rushing in with scouts/warriors, but the deity AI starts with quite a lot of units, so they won't have an easy clear path to capture.
The challenge is also 8 range. Might have to forward settle a city to be able to reach enemies. The supply limit might also be an issue, with a few scouts it might be reached very fast.

I'm doubting to go liberty for the early extra hammer to pump out units, or honor for more effective military.

I usually don't play the deity games; I'm an emperor-level player and immortal is a stretch for me. But this looks intriguing.

Guided missiles are good for getting the last hit in on an important enemy unit that you *almost* killed and are afraid it might insta-heal. I didn't know they had no maintenance costs (that's good to know) I have no idea how good they will be through the medieval era. Should at least be useful for demanding tributes from city states; maybe even a worker.

I recall loading them on missile cruisers. It was a novelty, but also useful.

Thanks for the extra game and setup. Looking forward to seeing how to utilize the missiles.

Happy New Year.
