So the required victory is Science, but Monty is obviously the warrior-type. I have played the save (which will be available late Tuesday US eastern time) out a little over 100 turns, and so far Small Continents Plus looks pretty rich. Hopefully, a quick capture of a pretty well-placed capital will be possible... #UsingMyUA4science

Waiting for the After Actions thread. ;) (I just finished the game.) I settled in place, which pretty much meant I had to go Tradition. And I quickly settled an expo to the northwest by the lakes. The rest of my cities I took from Siam, but I couldn't take his capital right away.

During the first Siamese war I stole a worker, then captured a coastal city that he settled just a little too close to me, but I was building Hanging Gardens at the time and didn't know if I had spare hammers to build a few catapults to take his capital and HG was too important since I didn't have fresh water. I was going to raze Si Satchanalai but decided it would be a good base for taking his capital later, and it did have a new luxury or two. It turned out to be a really good city much to my surprise, and I used it to sent cargo ships of food to my capital for most of the game. I did eventually capture and annex Sukhothai, but not until *much* later in the game (during the third Siamese war.) I'll go into that in the AA thread.

First move was the Jag to the jungle hill west of the mountain. Didn't see anything worthwhile so SiP. Jag scouts W-NW. Build order is Scout, Monument, Jag. Scout moves south and spies a red and yellow border, I think its the Songhai. But no, its Ram! Oh great, I hate that guy; he can be a real pain in the neck later in the game. The Jag in the North meets Gandhi. Oh nice, a good neighbor.

An opportunity to steal Ram's worker presents itself and I take it. My scout almost dies in the process. They both head home and run smack into a new barb camp. The barb warrior kills my Scout and takes the worker. Well now I need to build a military to get the worker back. Another Jag and an Archer should do the trick. By now it looks like we're on a very small continent with Siam and India. I might try to clear the continent before I meet anyone else.

The first Aztec Settler heads north to the Twin Lakes Region for the first expo before Gandhi can get there. Doh, before I get to the desired city location, an Indian Settler appears. He might settle next turn so I am forced to found Teotihuacan where I stand, on a hill sheep on the shore of the larger lake; not the best spot but not terrible.

The Indian Settler heads west toward the other city location I had picked out in the Western Lake District. Decision time, do I attack the Indian Setttler to prevent my other location from being taken? Yes, we're in Jungle and my Jag can kill the Warrior escort so I DoW Gandhi and take his settler. Now I'm at war with both the Civs on my continent. I may as well try to clear it with CB.

As I build my army I try to prevent Ram from coming north - but he sneaks two settlers by my Jag and Archer. I almost kill one but he founds a city on the east coast in the middle of the desert. And I can't catch the other Settler but he looks like he's heading to the spot I had picked out on the coast with a river west of my capital anyway. But no, he founds on a hill one tile away from the coast; comeon Ram. But I can still get the Whales with a work boat from my other city nearby so I might keep the city when I take it.

The offensive begins around T85. I have 3 Jags and 4 CB. I decide to go for the easy city in the desert first. It is captured easily on T90. Then on to the capital. It also falls fairly easily on T103; it seems Ram has failed to build an army. That's where we stand.

I have met two other AI across the sea so I need to decide if I'm going to wipe Ram out and risk the diplo penalty. I'm actually not sure how that penalty works; does it take effect if I have met the other AI, or if Ram has met them? I think he has met one of them but maybe not the other. Well I'm going to take him out regardless; he'll be too much of a pain later, trying to settle cities in the middle of my empire in any old terrible location like he always does.

Spoiler T103 (Does show AI other than our home continent) :
