Just trying to get Historical Japan Victory. Got first one easy with no sweat but...

How do i even get past Korea? Samurais dont really work when your enemy is spamming guns.

They dont seem keen to collapse either.

New update: May i ask why Independence at Shaky? Sigh. I tought i had to be unstable...

EDIT: I might try this again tomorrow, the second UHV but instead of going whip spam i go with Monarchy civics to be always stable atleast.

Hmm I've never had them declare independence on shaky before? What year is it when they did that?

Some random helpful tips for UHV3 from my experience.

The biggest ABSOULTE biggest thing I've noticed that made or broke a game is getting China early. The earliest the better.

having a few Carvels or explorer to keep contact with europe and other civs is important too. Trying to maintain good relations with as many tech leaders early on. I usually wait until I have rifles and quickly curb stomp China ASAP.

Another technique is researching a tech but not finishing it and waiting until you have modernization effect nets quite a bit extra bulbs I can put into another tech that nobody will trade. Machine tools is vital too for Japanese factory.

Last tip for UHV 3 is getting Tokyo and edo as huge as possible. They can run lots and lots of specialist

But all other advice aside I say China/Korea is still the most important part. Keep the pop low though or use whipping on foriegn cities only until your stability can handle them.

I think im gonna try it again but instead this time, i might just not whip for stability purposes and Monarchy civic bonuses for stab
Monarchy synergizes with almost all civics branches and it doesnt throw you into unhappiness stab debuffs

Oh yeah try that. One thing though I see Korea capital is pop 18. Did they spawn like that or did grow that big when you owned it? Might be why they were able to break free?

Japan is such a fun but complicated UHV. Personally I'd keep whipping on because most cities will be food rich but production poor. I'd avoid whipping core cities too much though. But you are correct monarchy works better for stability

The moment i saw Seoul giving me double my Research, i knew i couldnt just whip it willy nilly. That capital is too precious!

Oh yeah it's beautiful. Essential ASAP too. I've just had to curve back it's growth early on or that stability hit is too much to handle. So many things to manage in the Japan game. Looking forward to seeing your empire rise!

Found my way by capitulating Korea.... and getting this very ironic border

EDIT: nope, not ideal. It revolts very quickly.

If nothing works to stop them respawn, the backup solution is wipping them out by war. Since they die very recently, their next respawn will be delayed till other dead one had respawned. If their army is too large, just wait and they will always disband some of them.

I'm sorry, WHAT?!
Since when China is a Tech monster?!

Ooook, change of plans. Next run, whip time day 1. :whipped::whipped::whipped::whipped:

I grasp China upon Mongol's collapse, only to fight with indies and barbs. A reborn and unified China is unbeatable without huge loss.

Oof that's rough. China is no joke in this version. Sometimes I have to force them to collapse with a prolonged war of attrition. Sometimes I've gotten lucky and got some war partners to join in, even if they're far away it seemed to speed up their collapse.

I don't want to give out bad info but all the games I've lost or won came down to how fast I could get China under my control. Sometimes I purposely waited because I wanted a ww1 and ww2 type battle with China only to get curb stomped on the UHV3 later on

Update, Tech going brrr and China conquered, by the power of them collapsing.

Just out of curiosity: Is 1550 tech at this point in the game good for Japan? I'm ahead of America, Germany and France and keeping up with Britain, catching them by espionage.
At this point, i cant lose. either i win historically or by score. yay

God, if this was settled before 1940 i would rage

EDIT: UPDATE 1, GLOBAL ERA TECHS SUCESSFUL

EDIT 2: I am now at Digital Era, but a shaky stability check made me lose part of Indochina. Thank god it wasn't China!

Lmao, shame that Time is too valuable in the score.

EDIT: Savegames for this journey

Wow, i actually did it. Unbelievable.
You guys dont know but i tried this run for more than 2-3 years... This is such a banger achieving this.
On Normal speed even.
Congratulations! Japan is the hardest civilization to win a historical game as, so you have now entered the elite group of DoC fanatics who have pulled it off.
