Not as boring as you'd think; a Library that supports itself and another building ain't terrible.

That being said, thank God China has the Chu-Ko-Nu to stay exciting.

Paper maker was a library-like building (giving +1 science per 2 pop - I didn't notice if it had scientist slots) and it also gave +4 gold. I don't know what it replaces, if anything. Obviously the most likely explanation from this info is that it's just a library with a gold bonus.
