[Utility] ModTools (beta)

Now that it's renamed and sitting in my Java directory, ModTools opens properly; but the program never lists any available mods to verify or work with. (I've specified the right paths for my user account and my mods; I tried running ModTools from other directories; and I triple-checked your web site to make sure I wasn't overlooking the obvous, this time. Whatever I've done so far, both windows remain blank; could you please tell me what's causing that problem? Thank you again!

With the utility showing two blank panels, from the Session menu, select Preferences. Check the "User home", "MODS path" and "ModBuddy path" - one or more will be incorrect for your system.

If the "User home" is wrong you'll need to start the utility with the "-u /path/to/my/home" parameter.

The other two are derived from "User home" so if the first part (the bit that's the same as the "User home" value) is wrong, just use the -u parameter, if the other part of their path is wrong you'll need to use the -b, -c and/or -q parameters to fix them

Code:
-b dir ModBuddy dir (default is 'Documents/Firaxis ModBuddy'
 -c dir Civ5 MODS dir (default is 'Documents/My Games/Sid Meier's Civilization 5/MODS'
 -q dir Civ5 SQL dir (default is 'Documents/My Games/Sid Meier's Civilization 5/cache'

If I wanted to put the run instructions into a batch file, would I need to add or change anything? I figured out the directory problem: the mods and ModBuddy paths are in "My Documents" (not just "Documents") on this machine. I added the missing "my" to the ModTools defaults in the Preferences window, but there's no way to save the new preferences permanently.

RTFM perhaps?

"Download the zip file and the rename it as ModTools.jar"
Done that, but the file just opens the WinRar menu instead of the Java menu. I tried to extract it and put it in the clients folder at the Java install folder itself, didn't work.

RTFM perhaps?

To start the tool ...
... if Java is installed on the path, double-click "ModTools.jar",
... otherwise, from a command prompt, enter "{path_to_java}\java -jar ModTools.jar"

Great tool, just used it to merge 41 mods from your Pick'N'Mix site. An error I encountered when trying to merge some of your older mods was:

Code:
Property PediaCategory has an alternate value of UNITS
Property PediaAtlas has an alternate value of UNIT_ATLAS_2
Property PediaIndex has an alternate value of 48
Processing 'Global - Barbarian XP Level 6 (v 2)'
---
Processing 'Global - Commander Influence Borders (v 1)'
---
Saving mod 'asdf (v 1)'
--- Issues!

I was able to resolve this issue by removing the PediaCategory, PediaAtlas, and PediaIndex entries from the modinfo files. I just wanted to make sure that those entries don't have any functionality in those mods and that there shouldn't be any problems from their removal.

Old stuff from when I was trying to get mods to have their own entries in the Pedia ... long dead project, completely safe to remove.

Hey Whoward,

I just posted this in another thread that probably wasn't appropriate for it, but I'll repost here since this is specific for the ModTools program. I'm looking for some help with what I'm sure is my own user error. Not sure what I'm doing wrong with the Mod Tools utility, but whenever I try and combine mods (all of which are from the picknmixmods site) and click "Save as Mod", it doesn't ever seem to create the mod back in the My Games/..../MODS folder. Have any ideas of what's going on?

If it helps, the only error I get from the tool is from the DLL - Various Mod Components v66:

Verifing 'DLL - Various Mod Components (v 66)'
DLL files MUST be called CvGameCore_Expansion1.dll and be in the root of the mod
CvGameCore_Expansion2.dll appears to be unused
--- Issues!

I tried renaming Expansion2 to Expansion1, but that doesn't seem to solve it either.

I don't seem to see my mods.
In preferences I change the folder paths, but it doesn't seem to make a difference.
Modbuddy is installed.
Does it matter where I put modtools.jar?

I noticed, that the folder name has to be exactly the same as the name from the modinfo file. otherwise the mods won't show up.

The mod tools gets stuck when attempting to do anything with map mods.

Please be more specific than "stuck" - are you getting validation errors?

What are you trying to do? Merge two (or more) mods or recreate the project from a mod?

If possible, please attach/link the actual map mod that is getting "stuck"

Hey whoward, sorry for hijacking this thread, but it is really important, that you answer the questions here, at least the 4th:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=550217

The 4th. question is the most important, since this is an issue for every modder who wants to create multiplayer mods and also affects many of your mods, resulting in being not multiplayer compatible.

Edit:
E.g your DLL - Various Mod Components (v 66) makes shoshone unplayable in mutliplayer. I guess because you made a custom Pop-Up for their goodyhuts choosing.. which does not work in multiplayer.

Everything fails. It can't validate, it can't merge as mod or project. Verifying or merging mods that do not have map files work just fine. From the images you can see the list of different steam mods I tried. I did them in various combinations from just alone to all together with no success. It stops right where the screenshot shows and doesn't go anywhere even if left there for 12 hours while I'm at work.

Sorry, Steam is against my religion

Any chance of a non-steam download link to any one of those?

Attached should fix the issue, let me know if it doesn't

Edit: Attachment removed, as now uploaded to my web site

I can successfully Merge several mods into new project, but I can't recreate project from a single mod (no logs showed ~ tested on few different mods, some were very simple).

I am quite confused since tutorial is mentioning the possibility to do so (even keeping the GUID). So has anyone recreated the project file from single mod? Thanks for info.

@Edit
Nevermind, I have been using a download from "http://www.picknmixmods.com/", version from post #37 seems to work.

Thanks a lot.
