Third, I do not have any viruses, ad-ware and such. My hard drive has 25gigs left on it. This is a clean computer that gives me no problems otherwise.

Here's what it does. (I've even changed the game options to Low Resolution)
Everything loads and runs perfectly until after you choose the world and leader options and the Start Game button appears.
I press the Start Game button and I get the starting off screen with Your Leader on it but after I continue the screen show black, other than it says that I have joined the game and autosaving in the top left and it shows the settler in the circle with an arrow, such as you would have if you next unit to move was off of the screen.
A couple of seconds later the mouse cursor disappears and my whole computer freezes up and I can only shut down by unplugging.
After I fire back up I get a "your computer has recovered from a fatal error" message.

Can anyone help me?
I have a 2 year old and another on the way and a laptop is so much better than sequestering myself in one room to play the game.

Thanks,
Mark

Civ4 is crap when it comes to video card requirements.

They really just have no idea what they're doing. I have 256 Mb of video RAM, Diamond Radeon X1550 (was top of the line less than a year ago), 1 Gb of system memory, and when playing BtS on MEDIUM graphics on a STANDARD SIZE map, it crashes halfway into the game with the video memory allocation error.

THEY LIE. Whatever specs they say for video cards, I have it and it's NOT GOOD ENOUGH for those people. Words cannot express how evil, disgusting, and stupid they are at Firaxis. Scum. End of.

Nah man, you're blowing it way out of proportion. It depends on your configuration.

Reinstall XP.

Upgrade RAM to 2GB and lag goes away..at least it did for me.:)

I just bought Civ4, and called in the support about my laptop card, said it wasn't good enough. But I don't think the guy liked me. So, a second opinion would be very much appreciated.

Does this card meet minimum requirements?

Intel(R) GMA 950

Direct play 8 (is this like directx?)

128 MB total memory

My RAM is 2 gigs

I tried installing it on my brothers laptop, and it started up, and the picture and video worked, but all the text in the text boxes looked like bar codes. any ideas??
