Exactly what I would be concerned about.

Switzerland has a defense that makes it likely that an invasion and conquest would be more trouble than it would be worth. This provides security (along with friendly neighbors). It does not make the system invincible. It does not make it impossible to invade Switzerland. It just makes it not worth the trouble. No more, no less.

Why the hell should anyone want to invade Switzerland?
It appears to me that this country is more hostile than I thought it to be.

The Roman legions weren't the greatest ever, but they were very good. The Romans were the first to employ professional soldiers; employed by the state. I suppose money was a greater drive for conquest than nationalism (if its an empire wouldn't it be called imperialism?).
