    Civ Add-on/Expansion Pack Ideas

In the new expansion pack, I would be most pleased if Firaxis addressed the following issues. -Nuclear Weapons: these should be far more destructive (all city improvments should be destroyed, including wonders...), and the city should loose another 1/2 of its population in the next 5 turns to...

    Nuclear Warfare

Sid did a reasonable job with the nukes in my opinion. The accepted wisdom is that a certain number of nuclear explosions would be required in close sequence to set off a catastrophic nuclear winter in a short time. In Civ III this is represented, especially if a devastating nuclear strike is...

    Nuclear Warfare

Nuclear Winter would be a short-term conequence, and would be over within 2/3 years as all of the dust sanks back to earth, letting the sun back in. The accepted wisdom is that the Nukes would have destroyed the ozone layer, making everything hotter. Global warming might then ensue.

    Nuclear Warfare

My advice with Nukes is to not piss around. By launching just one nuke, you've already initiated retaliation from him, and possibly from others. So you might just as well launch all the f**ckers and be done with it. If you plan to start the nuking, then save up some money, and search all...

Did anyone ever get the Ironworks small wonder?

I can see where you're coming from: it is very rare. It would be nice to able to build it wherever, but I think with this Wonder Sid is trying to encapsualate an industrial phenmonen that sometimes -just happens-. They're trying to show that just sometimes, a certain place becomes an industrial...

    Upgrades

Why is the computer so afraid of upgrading its units? I'm currenty playing huge map, 8 civs, regent difficulty. The Americans next to me are about my size (we both have appr. 130 infantry), but he has 25 spearmen, 5 pikemen, 10 musketeers, and 10 riflemen as well, IN 1865!!! I realise that...

    Anyone seen this before?

In the first (and last game) I've played on Emperor so far, I managed to survive to the modern age, with the 4th biggest empire (Huge map, 10 civs), but the Americans next to me were huge. I had no chance of winning, but wanted to survive. I knew the Americans would declare war and wipe me out...

Neighbours - get them to do the work !

I think Captain Pugwash has some good points. Personally, I like to be in early contact with a few nice neighbours for tech-trading, but I don't like 'em too close, because for me going to war before gun-powder is an anathema. In summary: close, but not too close.

Forbidden Palace without a Great Leader

The above ideas are very useful, but now a word on the actual mechanics of building it. I find that if one has just conquered somewhere, or found a fresh area of land, the Forbidden Palace should be built in the city with the highest population. Even at a very large distance from your...

    Luxury Denial

Us Brits are pretty good at that kind of sneaky fighting eh? Another tactic is to do it with Paratroops if he's within reach but your'e not ready for the full scale invasion. Just drop them over the resourse, cut the links, and then hold up attempts to reconnect it until the paratrooper gets...

Air superiority - do fighters ever dogfight?

The best way to conduct a cap of a certain area within the bounds of game capabilities is to send your fighters themselves on bombing missions. When interecpted by enemy bombers, they have a greater chance of shooting them down in the ensuing engagement, and perhaps suceeding in their mission too.

    Unusual Game

You said that you started on a medium sized island. In my current game (12 civs, huge map, Regent), being on this kind of smallish island was the worst deal ever. I didn't make contact with anyone until 1400 AD, and so had to research every tech myself (hard when you get past warlord), and I...

Check your tech-tree in the science advisor - do you have sea-faring?

    Modern naval warfare in Civ3

I agree with the fact that Subs are too poor in this game. We must remember that a sub should be easily able to sink a transport, a destroyer, and do serious damage to a Battleship. The destroyer's ability lies not with its power, but movement and ability to sniff out subs. Therefore I gave...

    Expansion & Corruption Questions

I'm not sure about the wise turning their back on corruption... who knows. Just look at big business today! But I do think that communications should have something to do with it. Corruption should be reduced every time a transport link is completed from the captital to a majorly corrupt...
