Wow, tons of good tips. I crushed Montezuma, and I'm rolling through the Egyptians (Hatty) right now... although cursed Kublai Khan went from Pleased to Annoyed before I even noticed and stabbed me in the back. Argh.
Tips for a two-front war, anyone?!
Do you sue for peace between these wars?
Thanks y'all. :) Keep 'em coming!
Should I save my barracks promotion until after a battle?
For reinforcements to travel along?
I settled four, captured three, and lost two of those to eventually end up with five. I'm playing on Large Earth2 (Epic speed) and all the AIs have more, so I'm...
Thanks to all of you. Very helpful advice. :) I've just started a new game, and I will probably soon be posting a 4000 B.C. and an ~A.D. 1500 save so y'all can tell me where I went wrong. Unless I actually win!
So I should probably build a larger army, as well? I'm used to playing on Warlord...
(If it's too long, I numbered the most important parts. :))
My wars always run out of steam! It may be that I just need to build bigger armies, or I attack too early. (1) What sort of numbers would one need for a war on Noble?
My strategy has been to build up one large stack, then move it...
I could see this with food, although it doesn't make very much sense with production, to me.
Maybe there could be a penalty to food shipping to reflect that transport has a cost.
That's true. I've been thinking about taking screenshots of potential city sites and asking members here to evaluate them, since I often have difficulty deciding. Two of the three cities I can see have no resources but a single Fur, though!
Can you expand on this a little? What do you mean by entirely natural play, for instance? To hear someone say this about Immortal is pretty interesting. I play on Noble, and even so I find myself computing hammers and overflow from whipping, counting food and relating that to tiles worked and...
Your post has given me some things to think about, since I never really had the urge to try small. I play large maps almost exclusively - I like the epic scope, as others have said, and I want to feel like I'm really guiding a nation through history! My favorite part of the game is...
Yeah, Zara is in my current game and he is proving incredibly annoying. I'm not so sure he'll do well later in the game, because he has settled half the map - and that includes half of the worthless tundra spots! I have no idea how a city with maybe two non-tundra tiles is going to be anything...
I love playing on recognizable landmasses, so I thought I'd see if anyone had made a more accurate/larger/whatever Earth map. The problem is that I have found too many! Earth18 looks popular, but I have found about 2054912 "fixes" or "improvements" to it and I'm not sure which would be best...
In Orion's game, he seems to use trebuchets for collateral damage and catapults to bombard (lower defenses). Since catapults have more strength but less bombard damage (IIRC; may be wrong), shouldn't it be the other way around? Maybe trebuchets do more collateral damage?
Two final questions (for now!):
1.) How does a city's population affect that city's commerce/hammers, if at all? Beyond being able to work extra tiles, that is.
2.) When you trade a resource, do you lose access to it?
Yep; I've read every non-PDF file I can get my hands on. (I don't like PDFs...
