I used to build one or two landmarks but back then firing historical events was more important than gaining actual artifacts and landmarks. Now things changed a bit so I don't know. There was one time when I had not enough museums to keep all artifacts, so slots can matter too.

AI may accept your demand of vassalage if you're powerful enough, at least that's how it works in King difficulty.

Purchasing unit tends to be my most underused function, even more so in early game because I hoard golds to accelerate monuments and shrines in new cities.
