I agree with everything you've said, but especially this. I tend to go work backwards from ideal. My one question is about sharing wheat with the capital. Will I be as to farm it pre-CS?

@ lymond. Be careful on what you assume! Improving corn is the right Move. I should have said I will mine pigs then move toward forests by way of the corn. Pop 3 feels like a long time to wait for a settler. Honestly, with this much chopping potential my instinct is to go...
