How does CivIV run on an HP Pavillion zd8000 laptop?

The FX5200 has either 64MB or 128MB and it's a very inferior card. Hopefully, your machine will run fine, but as you know, Civ4 has some issues with ATI cards. Good luck.

Porcelyn, you don't have a graphics card, just the intgrated chip. That's the problem.

Cannot run DVD-rom with CIV IV

Have you tried running it with a non-burning DVD drive? Many modern games won't work when put into a DVD-RW drive, due to copy protection. My DVD-RAM drive won't run Atari's Path of Neo game, but my DVD-ROM drive runs it fine.

    Does Civ4 cause computer shutdown?

nVidia does NOT support mobile graphics cards, except for the recent Go7800. The only driver he can use is the Toshiba drivers, they were designed for his card, they are his best and only option. No, you must uninstall/reinstall.

    Graphic Problem

You're right, this isn't a problem with the drivers, it is civ 4 and civ alone. The only reason I recommend updating drivers is that often the gfx makers fix the various problems that the games themselves cause. And after doing some research, I think the cure is to skip all the way to my last...

    Graphic Problem

    1) Patch the game to v1.52 2) This utility seems to have fixed a plethora of problems, so it couldn't hurt. http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=146309 3) If 2 doesn't work or you've done it already, download and install the december build of DX9c from the link below...

    Graphic Problem

The Dell Dimension 2400 doesn't even have a modern (AGP or PCIe) graphics slot. You can't add a video card to it, I'm afraid. Intel 8xxx series don't have Tnl, which civ requires. I doubt you can even start the game.

Need Help with Larger Playing Lands

Have you tried this?: http://www.2kgames.com/civ4/support_ati.htm Another option is to try different drivers. I'm not an ATI owner, so I can't help you much there, but see if ati.com has an archive of older drivers or search at guru3d.com. The newest driver is not always the best driver for...

    Civ IV Runs Extremely Slow

Either upgrade has 50% more to twice the power of the FX5200. However, the entire Nvidia FX5000 series is pretty weak with DirectX9 games like Civ. The ATI 9600 was a fine card in its day and would be your best option. You'll see an improvement.

    Graphics Problem - Any Ideas?

Those case fans would keep the rest of the rig cool, but I'd be shocked if many of those cards were running two years after purchase.

    Black Map - Please Help!

I don't think your rig is the problem. However, you could try one of the beta drivers at guru3d.com. I'm currently using 83.10 and have no problems. You could also try the December rebuild of DX9 (d/l it from M$ or guru3d.com)
