will that work with the fall further modmod already layered on top of ffh2?

Hi, my room mate and I like to play the game on multiplayer, and we have a problem of the games going out of sync. Is this a common problem? is there an easy fix? is this because I use a steam copy and he used a disc? I appreciate any help you can give me on this.
