    When I have obsolete units, I only upgrade the high XP units. As for the rest, If I can't find a military use for them, I give them to an ally.

    It's a Defensive Pact, not an Offensive Pact.

    I always assumed the later religions gave you a missionary to help you spread it a bit because the early religions have such a big advantage having been around much longer.

    I usually just try to keep a healthy food surplus of at least +3. Then plan the rest accordingly whether you want more production or lots of coins.

    Maintain a good-sized army even if you never plan on using it. If your military is weak, the AI more often than not will attack you whether your relations are good or not. They can smell weakness.

    You don't have to clear ruins to build over them. It's just a marker to show where the city was. Man, the ice cities aren't even on the coast. Burn them to the ground.

    Its dependent on what you're building. For example if you are building Stonehenge and you have access to stone, which lets you build it 50% faster, you get 50% more hammers when you chop.

    Both in the capital would be more effiecient. Once you have the shrines built you only have to build one Market and Bank to increase the profits instead of building two.

    Railroads give an extra hammer to mines and lumbermills, not workshops. When my workers have nothing to do, I have them build roads over forests first, then mines so I that once I get the tech required, I can rush to those tiles and build lumbermills and railroads without delay.

    And you have to spend 10 turns to quarry it.
