Hotseat will not be available in Civ VII — A plea to FXS_Sar and Game Devs (POLL)

Even if it's not a common way of playing multiplayer anymore, hotseat can also be a compelling mode of solo play. If one wants to see how a game plays out from multiple perspectives, or without some of the AI's predictable tendencies, hotseat is an interesting, albeit slow, way of doing so.

pre-release info Maya - Antiquity Age Civilization Discussion

It certainly seems like the game is following the Civ VI approach of giving civs extensive collections of abilities. I generally prefered Civ V's approach of fewer, more distinct and impactful abilities, but a lot will depend on execution. Switching to my community ecologist hat, I'm not a fan...

(POLL) What do we think of the change to playing multiple civs per game?

I'm surprised to see the consensus so strongly against this mechanic. To me, finding interesting ways to combine unique bonuses is one of the most compelling aspects of games like Civ (which is why I was so strongly in favor of unrestricted civ/leader combinations in Civ VI). And while I...

Which ones of the mechanics implemented by Firaxis was bad ?

Tech Scaling on district costs/ harvest yields- This is more "under the hood" than a lot of other suggestions, but it does make a big difference with regard to game balance and strategic incentives. I'd much rather have cities founded late in the game able to get districts established quickly...

How would you design nomadic Civilizations?

An option closer to the default mechanics would be to adapt the floating city mechanics from Beyond Earth Rising TIde (cities can be moved as a project and claim all adjacent tiles when doing so). District mechanics would make this trickier of course. The solution I thought of for the Lakota civ...

Combat in Humankind vs. Civ V/VI

I'm curious how other players feel about Humankind's system. While I feel like this was put forward as a major selling point of the game, I don't personally see much to recommend it over Civ V and VI's system. Both revolve around a mixture of melee and ranged units engaging in one unit per tile...

Should civ7 separate technologies (science) from civics (culture)?

I guess I'll be the first person here to say I do enjoy the double tree structure. Having multiple research resources offers interesting possibilities for specialization, either as an in-game strategic choice or as a possibility for unique abilities. And it also makes thematic sense that a focus...

    Civ6 unpopular opinions thread

I agree that builders/workers feel obnoxious after playing Humankind. In theory, moving a builder to a space and giving a build command is the same number of actions as selecting an improvement and a tile to place on it in the city interface. With the builder approach, though, those actions need...

    Civ6 unpopular opinions thread

There's been a lot of discussion about whether the game would be better without religious agents as units on the map. Post Humankind, there's also been debate about whether the same is true of builders. To go a step further, I'd say we should consider whether Civ would be a better game without...

Whatever else happens... we need to talk about unintentional diplomatic victory (UDV)

I very much agree with this sentiment. If you're in the position where "accidental victory" is a concern, you're presumably already won the game in all but name. In such a position, I'm glad the game recognizes the victory without the requirement of going through the motions when the outcome is...

House rules for playing solo Hotseat Multiplayer

As someone who primarily plays the game as solo hotseat, my first advice would be to start small. Even on a standard size map, you're essentially playing eight games at once. This matters both in terms of time to complete a game and in terms of having to reacquaint yourself each turn with the...

[NFP] Poll: Always on Game Modes?

I'll echo the sentiment that "always on" game modes are not synonymous with the best game modes. I think Heroes and Secret Societies are the most interesting of the game modes, but I wouldn't want them on every game- partly because of the fantastical flavor, partly because they add a lot of...

    Reworking the Victories

Science- I think this victory condition was a lot more dynamic in vanilla. The GS changes removed a lot of the dynamism of racing for multiple parts at once since, in most games it's trivially easy to have all the original parts complete before you unlock the exoplanet expedition. This results...

    Is civ 6 PC

This is a very bold claim with, so far as I can tell, no evidence offered in support. To bring this back to arguments that come up in a civ context, there's likely more creativity to be found in incorporating a civ new to the franchise than in repeating a familiar one. And bringing historical...

    Is civ 6 PC

"PC" is really too broad and ambiguous a term to be helpful in facilitating discussion. In fact, I'd go so far as to argue that it's intentionally unhelpful, creating a strawman-like composite to avoid engaging with the specifics of the questions and scenarios actually being debated. In extreme...
