Google "sd4hide", download and install, run it, click on "Hide", play Civ, click on "Restore". End of story.

I’ve had the same problem. I bought a perfectly legal copy from amazon.co.uk, got the DVD version, installed it nicely and patched it to 1.52. Right from the start, I was getting the same error message about inserting the correct CDROM. Checked the secdrv.sys version, no problem there either...
