    Avoiding Out of Sync (OOS)

A friend and I just started playing 2 player over the internet Gods & Kings Civ V games. We love Civ and love that we can play. We do not love getting disconnected every 10-15 minutes and having to restart the game from the multi-player lobby. Is there some master list of things to avoid...

How far can you go into the "red"?

The science rate will drop to try and make up for the spending when you hit the end of your treasury. It will not adjust back up though. Thanks for the replies everyone, I guess that strategy is not so hot, hehe.

How far can you go into the "red"?

So I have a question. I apologize if it is newbish, but I have never really tried it. Does anyone know what happens if you are completely unable to pay for expenses even if your science is at 0%? I was thinking today about an extreme strategy soley based on production/military/extortion. I...

    Barbarians on Earth Scenario

Ok so I have played about 6 or 7 successful games of Civ IV so far. I decided I wanted to try something a bit different and I loaded up the Earth Scenario. The terrain is really fun so far and I think that the Civ IV version of earth is the best to date, however, I have one small problem...

    Total Number of Turns?

Oh, well that is obvious. Ok thanks, sorry for the dumb question.

    Total Number of Turns?

I did a few searches but the word turn is way too generic on these forums to get any good results. So I was wondering if anyone knew how many turns there are in the 4 different modes? I've been trying to find THE point in time where a GP would be better used to get immediate beakers (1300 or...

    you CAN improve ice tiles

Hmm I wasn't aware of that. Thanks for the info!

    you CAN improve ice tiles

Actually, I believe there are no exceptions to that. A city square always produces 2 food, 1 hammer, 1 commerce regardless of the terrain it is sitting on. And I agree to your main point of placing cities on unimproveable terrain, I do the same thing :)

    you CAN improve ice tiles

This is because terrain special features (forest, river, mountain, resources, etc) trump the non ability of being able to improve ice and tundra. This is why you can build lumbermills and camps and things in the tundra and apparently windmills along a river in the ice (although I don't believe...

    The Oracle!!!

I kind of like Code of Laws. I usually miss out on the beginning religions because I am discovering things for my workers (Husbandry, Agriculture, Mining, Masonry, etc). So this assures me a Holy City and gives me courthouses in one fell swoop. Also the Code Of Laws beaker requirement is...

    modern era too short?

This Prince game is the first one where I have tried to make a fully dedicated Science City. I have built all the wonders I could into it. I use Beaurocracy, Representation, Caste System, and Pacifism. Before I switched civics to make military units my capital city was producing 860 beakers...

    modern era too short?

I am in the middle of my first Prince game and I don't really have that problem. I made my capital city my science city so that I could take advantage of Beurocracy. I used that to pretty much make a beeline to Industrialism so that I could have tanks and battleships. It is about 1880 or so...

    How many science cities?

Well when I mentioned a "wealth" city I was thinking along the lines of where to build a wall street and banks and such. I guess I have a further refinement to my question. If you have X amount of fully dedicated science cities, then do you build any science improvements in the other cities...

    How many science cities?

So I've only played a few Civ IV games at this point, all on Noble. I started playing civilization in 1995 or so when I purchased Civ I for my PC. Anyways, I kind of have a hard time pulling myself out of the "old" civ strategy of making all cities very capable in all areas. I need to get...
