I have never seen or even heard of these symptons before. Could it be that you are using call hold (?) or whatever feature of either the modem or a separate program? That is all I can think of. Hope it helps.

If you are having too easy a time and will gain more fun by increasing the difficulty I say go for it. Put it this way, your only giving the AI an advantage ;).

I would love to play multiplayer moo3 but I don't have the time and it doesn't have PBEM support AFAIK. You could check out http://www.orionsector.com and look for the multiplayer hub section for moo3. I don't know the status of the section as I haven't used it but good luck finding a game.

Try removing the game and reinstalling. Then edit the configuration file and see if it works. If it doesn't try each patch separately.

I don't know about the crashing but do you get an error message and what is it? Also, you could try setting the compatibility mode for the game to win95 and see if that helps.

Perhaps this should be put in a FAQ or make this thread sticky since so many people have been having the same problem? It's good to see this level of interest in game as old as SMAC. It shows that a great game never gets old :).

I haven't played Moo2 but you could try something obvious like putting /w at the end of the shortcut or something similar. If it is designed to support window mode look in the readme file or manual.

I don't really know what card is better on that list as I haven't had experience with them myself, I use a laptop with an AGP 4x radeon 7500 and it works fine for me. My suggestion is to get one with atleast 64mb video memory, and perhaps no tv-out if it is cheaper and you don't want/need...

I assume it should be. Make a backup of your saves and mods just in case ;). It works fine with the Australian version BTW.
