Surprisingly Theodora lately. (G&K Emperor/Immortal) .. She spams wonders and defensive buildings but ignores religion for the early-mid game. Tough to deal with when you spawn far apart.

Alexander and Hiawatha are the two civs that run away most often in my games (immortal and deity.) I don't think I've ever seen Greece in the lower half of the score list.

Japanese UA is the most powerful military-focused UA in the game and is relevant for the entire game. Also, Germany's discount allows you to spam units .... esp. their UU which takes only half the production of a normal Pike. Have you played this game before?

As far as I understand it taking the Tradition opener just for a culture boost to policies will not help you attain policies faster (actually slower) because of the giant increase in new social policy costs. You'll finish Liberty faster by going only Liberty than you would by going Tradition...

Should also mention quickly that the early National College build is aimed more for Immortal/Deity- where you really need to catch up in science as fast as you can. Emperor and below it doesn't make or break the game. You have the freedom to reliably rush and complete any wonder that suits...
