    Strategies for Diplomatic Victory??

After multiple games all the way through Prince there are only two victory conditions that have eluded me: Diplomatic and Conquest. I'll leave conquest for another time, and would rather focus on Diplomatic. I've tried staying on great terms with the other Civs by gifting them items...

    Condensed tips for beginners?

After a dozen games or so, up through prince difficulty...here's what I've been enlightened with: 1. Watch for aggressive Civs - If you encounter a civ that's immediately demanding items upon first meeting, early or late in the game, beware of them. They tend to be the global "problem...

Comfirmed FIX for Crashes and Reboots! (ATI Cards)

4.12 isn't exactly working for my 9800 pro 128. Specs: P4 2.4gig, 1gig ram, 875P chipset (latest bios F13), 9800Pro 128 Problem: Diplomacy crash to desktop, VPU recovery crash dump generated by catalyst driver. After two or three of these in a game my monitor will slam into a standby...

Anyone getting Diplomacy CTD (crash to desktop)?

Thanks Dupes, I'll try that. Also, FWIW, this diplomacy crash was happening before the 1.09 patch. Others suggested going back to the 4.12 catalyst driver. That stopped the diplomacy crash....but now it crashes at random points while just maneuvering over the map. Also...my monitor is...

    Game Error

Spyware? Virus? Go download Spyware doctor from www.download.com and run that. Then go to trendmicro.com to do an online "house call" scan for other issues. I've never heard of anyone else reporting this. Windows might be jacked up.

Anyone getting Diplomacy CTD (crash to desktop)?

 Specs: P4 2.4gig 1gig ram, 875P chipset, 9800 PRO 128. Problem: During "diplomacy" with any other civ, the video will either freeze for a few seconds, and/or minimizes CIV4, goes to desktop and I get a VPU "driver stopped responding" crash dump from the ATI Catalyst driver. I can...

    512mb of RAM isn't enough.....

Folks, I know it has memory leak errors. I know it's not running effeciently. But for the time being, if the game is going to consume 700+ mb while running (memory leak or not) then I would prefer to have that 1gig of physical memory allotted for stability purposes anyways. There was a...

The hardware requirements are not the problem...

I can understand what you're saying, but that's not emperical evidence that hardware is not to blame. Make no mistake, I'm not saying this is 100% hardware...because it's sure as hell is NOT. Python, according to others, is ******** slow and a major source for the crappy performance. I'm sure...

    512mb of RAM isn't enough.....

Thanks 1c0n. The pagefile is about 1.25 gigs, and my system is a dual boot win2k Pro system and XP pro. In XP, it flat crashes out, even if i disable myself from the network and kill all memory resident programs. And I mean crash out, it acts like it blows the refresh out and will put the...

    The Great Hardware Recommendation Lie!

Yes, ram isn't the holy grail for many of us, but you can never have enough ram (sort of). The consumes a lot of it, period....end of story. I'm not hanging my hat on RAM being a complete solution because their code is obviously fat and bloated. But I also wouldn't wait around for a patch...

    512mb of RAM isn't enough.....

If you like to run games with globe size larger than standard....be prepaired for heavy ram usage. On several games I've had ram utilization from Civ4 around 710+ mb. That's just the game alone; I'm not counting other memory resident programs like zonealarm and Norton. This created...

    This game is unbearably slow

It's your memory home-boy. I have 3 systems running at 512 and I get VM errors and slow response also. And yes, it has to do with map size, I play one size down from the largest (can't remember the name for it). The larger map, with lots of cities and civs = lots and lots of calculations. On...

    The Great Hardware Recommendation Lie!

Firstly, the game is fun as can be. Hours of life has been lost to Civ4, but the technical difficulties of the game have been tremendous. The minimum specs of 1.2gig proc, and 256mb ram is absolutely insane. If you think you can run this game on those specs, you WILL kill yourself and...

IMPORTANT: Support page & New Fix for Radeon Cards

Nothing is working for me folks. At least some of you are getting a crash to desktop. My situation is a complete driver failure that results in no video and the monitor going into standby. I have to reboot. Here's the stats: 1. ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 256mb....no hardware issues. 2. Noticed...
