Anyone for an Apollo Challenge Line-up???

As someone who plays BERT weekly, and lurks the forums a lot, I would love to see an Apollo series.

How to Survive Rising Tide Apollo

I'm just speaking from my experience with the game. I've played several games where an AI landed where I was expecting to settle my second or third city. Or when I try for aquatic cities, just having an AI within 3 turns of ship movement away ends up in wars. I also get the message about AI...

How to Survive Rising Tide Apollo

Isolation means not having an AI civ that can march/ship an army to you easily. If you have aquatic cities, any other civ with a navy will target you. If you have a land-locked empire, than isolation means not having an AI land next to you (which I have in several of my games). I think...

How to Survive Rising Tide Apollo

I actually think the opposite of this. Prosperity is best when isolated because the tree promotes quick expansion and conversion to cities. That is usually what pisses off your neighbors. So being isolated is good so you don't get rolled early game. Especially if you have water cities. If you...

Liberty Wide Game Guide (Acken's version)

Acken's guide is pretty much how I play CiV. Just some more tips to add to this: * I put each guild in different cities, so that they can still continue to grow. I usually end up sending food trade routes to these cities to help them grow a little. Don't put any guilds in the NC city, as you...

How do you think BERT is doing?

From your description of CiV strategy, it sounds like there isn't a lot of decisions to be made. You pretty much just described the one optimal path towards winning the game, which is placing your cities, getting NC up as fast as possible, continuing the science snowball, and making sure you get...

How do you think BERT is doing?

I need to explain what I mean when I say improvements from CiV. That may take awhile for me to do, and I don't really have the time. In short, when I think of improvements, I'm thinking about expanding policies into the Virtue trees. There is more flexibility with the virtue trees, and a lot...

How do you think BERT is doing?

I disagree with the general consensus on this forum that the game isn't balanced. I think the devs did a good job of opening up the game to different strategies other than academy spam, and that this adds balance to the game by giving you different ways to winning. The problem with the game now...

Affinities are (still) a nonsensical wash.

Just posting some of my findings of the game. I've played a lot of BERT, tried out several different strategies at the Apollo difficulty, and consistently get < 200 turn wins. I've found that you can make most of the improvements in the game work for a good win time. Farms are good, but...

    [BERT] Speed win theorycrafting

From watching half of Acken's playthru, what I picked up (and what I am not doing in my games), is getting most of 1st tier prosperity, and his choices in Traits. That game had great conditions in it too, where he had Hutama in game for the extra trade routes, and got the pre-patched, OP 33%...

    [BERT] Speed win theorycrafting

There may be some benefit to go deep in prosperity for the health benefits, so that you can get the % bonus to science for high positive health. This definitely sounds like a legit strat (I've tested it before with some success), but I'm not good enough to know if this is better than going...

Aliens everywhere! Am I the only one...

I agree with that. Just wanted to add more to the discussion. I usually don't attack the aliens until I'm ready, meaning I have the farming virtues/traits and army ready to go. So you can take advantage of their passivity until you are ready.
