There are a few other maps you can try like Play Europe. Maybe give those a shot.

If you want to play with 43 civilizations, install the 43 civ version of VP. I use Hormigas Enhanced Map Pack (43 Civs). Start a custom game, and choose "Play the world extended" map. If you play with this setup, you will notice Songhai often takes over Africa, and Sweden has a tendency to...

Yes, you are correct. It used to work, and even the AI path finding for movements and cargo ships were able to handle these fort+citadel, fort+city, and citadel+city canals correctly. It would be nice if open borders also allows friendly ships to pass through fort, citadels, and cities.

Notice 780.43 + 18.51 = 798.94 <= your total production per round. 3 turns -780.43 means in three turns you will be 780.43 away from finishing that building. 4 turns 18.51 means on the fourth turn you will have completed the building with a surplus production of 18.51 left over.

Warring is often boring and awfully tiresome

Thanks for the correction. In all honestly I've never really played as the Huns.

Warring is often boring and awfully tiresome

I agree, and I can't imagine playing without an airport in every city. I setup Quick Reaction Forces on each continent by staging troops around cities within airlift range and having groups of XCOM strategically positioned to respond to infiltrators, barbarians, and invading armies.

Warring is often boring and awfully tiresome

That makes sense. I always play earth map with all civs from ancient era in marathon mode. So far the only good counter I've found against snowballing/run-away opponents is to conquer everyone around me before they do (usually through vassalage).

Warring is often boring and awfully tiresome

100% agree. Someone suggested playing the Huns for reduced warmongering penalty. I still prefer England for her spies and naval bonus. What I found useful was to increase supply cap to the point where there is always at least 40% of it unused. Also always plan a few liberations during your...

Warring is often boring and awfully tiresome

Do you think that will have the side effect of causing the AI to be too weak? As it is, warring with the AI is challenging because AI players fill the screen with units. It is not uncommon for me to kill 5 to 10 units per round in late game battles. If unit numbers are drastically decreased...

I believe I found the promotion to disable city capture: PROMOTION_NO_CAPTURE However, it has the undesirable side effect of preventing naval melee from attacking/damaging cities.

    New Beta Patch - 1/15

I've always thought that is a feature not a bug, since I love warring so much. Can't wait for the new release!

    New Beta Patch - 1/15

That really depends. I play 43 civs and sometimes I have 20+ vassals. I give them free techs to boaster defenses and increase their outputs. At 10% tax rate I was getting over 1.7k GPT while maintenance was around 1.5k GPT if I recall correctly.

Unreasonably aggressive AIs for the lastest VP (12/1)

In a few of my games, civilizations that I've just met would declare war on me either that same round or the next round. I play with 43 civs so at any given time I could be at war with 1/3 of the civs who are on the other side of the globe. It does seem a bit ridiculous at times, given that I...

Unreasonably aggressive AIs for the lastest VP (12/1)

Does it say a current deal is preventing you from negotiating for peace with them? I found that a single AI can manage to bribe a dozen or so to go to war against you. The only way to stop that is to eliminate culprit. It is usually a neighboring AI that is hostile towards you.
