I can confirm that I got a Merchant of Venice as Poland with the Patronage finisher. I was very surprised when it appeared. It also let me capture a city-state for free.

In my attempt for a culture win (my second game) the world congress was the kicker to make them switch. I had gained cities from the people following Order and they were still unhappy. Once the World Ideology became Freedom two people flipped to freedom within 5 turns for me. So it does happen...

Yes, a patch came out a day or two ago. It was basically a patch to prepare for BNW. Thanks a bunch Denniz!

The same thing was happening to me. Even games exclusively in the new patch were not working. Hopefully its just a quick fix.

It's just that the rush from GL to HS and PT/ND is not there anymore. They are all still great wonders, but they are more spread out on the tech tree and causes the player to fill in most of the tech tree behind them.

I read through the posts here and didn't see it, but they updated the Trading Post artwork finally. I don't think they look great but they do look a lot more like a trading outpost.

The first time I won on Diety, just for the achievement, I played on Huge and assigned all the AIs except one to my team. Counts as a win when the one AI gets beat down. Be wary though, when I tried it always spawned me near the one enemy in the game

Yeah, the only thing I don't like with the VEM is that it is still being developed, so there are constantly updates. And sometimes the updates don't work well, because their forum is very suggestion-friendly; if an idea gets enough support they try it in the next patch, most of the time it works...

My initial reaction is to tell you to try the Unofficial Patch / Vanilla Enhanced Mod, it changes the game in many ways to balance the game which could make it appear harder. It takes a lot of getting used to though, its like playing a different game. They have their own forum here...

Yeah I understand that but wow, warmonger after the first DoW, that's never happened to me before (not that it mattered, I was playing Noble for the War Canoe achievement, obliterated everyone with their UU Knight).

Thanks for clarifying that feiling, so after 1 DoW there is a chance that everyone hates you? I haven't noticed that either, but generally on higher difficulties I pick and choose my opponents with extreme care, attacking people who have been denounced/are currently warring. I think that is why...
