Regarding the talk about anti-snowballing mechanics, especially regarding science: I thought a possible way to deal with this was to use a function to transform "raw science" into "actual science". Something like the inverse tangent function could be used for this purpose.
Raw science is...
Yeah, right. I never thought civ switching sounded like a good idea, but I could have given it a try. But you need to play a full game to test it out, which means no refunding afterwards, and the game price is rather high. So I simply won't try it out. (Although the main reason I didn't buy civ...
I heard of her in that book as well. From what I remember, Isaacson didn't really explain why her work mattered. I just vaguely remember some theoretic mathematical stuff. (And I'm a guy who like mathematics, so I don't say mathematical as a negative.)
Did not buy. Actually the biggest reason would be the leader pool, they just don't appeal to me at all. Even if they fixed all the bugs and and made the price of the game more reasonable I'm still not sure I'd care due to the leaders.
Actually civ has always included a test of time, the test being whether or not you can stand the late game fatigue and play until the end. In civ 7 they realized the majority of players actually can't stand the test of time, which is why they removed it.
The correct course of action would've been to delay the game until it's proper ready, or perhaps to label it as early access to indicate that it still need some work.
Using age transition to allow every player to catch up in technology and stuff is one thing, using the transitions to delete the player's units and downgrade all his cities is quite another thing. I don't even know how someone can come up with such a bad idea.
I'm not really following the game nowadays. I might buy it around launch, but before I make that decision it would be nice to have a couple non-marketers to do a summary of the significant good additions/changes, and also of all the annoying stuff that's bound to be present as well.
