    Civilization Evolution

For over 20 years I've had a few beers every night while watching TV before going to bed. I continued this practice when I started playing Civ III. As I moved up in levels, I found that my drinking adversely affected my game play, so I stopped. I'll still drink a few at a party, but my daily...

Playing in charactar as a civ or governmemt

I've thought about trying a game as India and not hooking up any cattle. :)

    Interesting Screenshots

Settings: Archipelago/80% water/standard map/demigod Playing as the Byzantines, I sailed a curragh into Zulu territory on a mapping mission. Shaka kindly asked me to leave, and I said I would -- I just didn't say when. I sailed around to the back side of the Zulu empire, and Shaka came at...

How long have you been playing Civ3 for?

I found PTW on GameTap about a year ago. I've since picked up C3C (and should probably just cancel my GameTap account).

    Late Game Research

I had this problem, too. When you're strong enough and have all the buildings you need, stop building units and start building wealth.

    Civ-lympics

To me, not having to find a safe landing place implies that swimming ashore would likely be necessary more often than with other units. A bit of a stretch, maybe, but at least they're used to getting their feet wet. :)

    Civ-lympics

I give the swimming edge to the Berserk.

Guimaraes was there for quite a while before the worker showed up. I don't think they're paying attention to the ivory at all; they just wanted to hook up their city, and this was the quckest route. Here's a shot from after they finished it: It was nice of them to road my elephants; I...

    Interesting Screenshots

They have a city just to the east of the screenshot they're trying to hook up. The French worker moved a square east and was building a road for the elephants there when I stopped for the night. :D

    Interesting Screenshots

Playing as Portugal, I popped a settler from a goody hut near Paris early in the game. Right outside the French capital were four herds of elephants, so I grabbed all of them, even though it was so close to Paris it restricted their first cultural expansion a bit. I didn't think they'd like...

    Retreat!

For pure fear factor, I'll go with ancient cavalry or crusaders. It starts when your aggressive neighbor gets the Temple of Zeus or the Knights Templar. You know they're coming; you just don't know when. Then, when the first one shows up at your doorstep, you do some quick math in your head...

    Korea?

Sorry, it was GameTap's PTW version. I have a bad habit of calling it vanilla for some reason.

    Korea?

I like Korea; I got my first Regent win with them. I was playing vanilla at the time and the H'wacha didn't have lethal bombardment -- a disappointing discovery when I tried to start my golden age. Despite that mid-game change in plans, I was able to start my GA with wonders and still got the...

    Victory!

To me, the space race victory is the most satisfying and best fits with my playing style and philosophy. Plus, I'm a science junkie, and when I was a kid I wanted to be an astronaut when I grew up.

    Why Nukes

I usually build a nuke or two as a deterrent. I would never use them first or to retaliate for an attack on an ally. I would have to think long and hard before using them even against someone who has used them against my empire. But I suppose that's just me. ;)
