    i've found a guaranteed fix (well it worked for me). here is the url: http://m0001.gamecopyworld.com/games/pc_civilization_4.shtml just follow the instructions regarding "Civilization IV v1.09 [ENGLISH] No-DVD/Fixed EXE" and you will be emancipated like me :D good luck and enjoy!
