Diplomacy issues after the patch (unresponsive UI, etc.)?

I had the diplo problem noted in the initial post on this thread. Askia pops up asking to go to war with Egypt 2 rounds after this save. The UI will not respond to any button clicks. Running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OS, I7-2600K CPU, 16Gb main memory, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti...
