SGOTM 05 - The Real Ms. Beyond

Hmm. Dissapointing that barbs don't seem to be able to use ships for anything other than 'wander around and kill things'. I would also like to note that it might be possible to cross some bodies of water with strategic city placement (since galleys can usually travel anywhere in cultural borders).

SGOTM 05 - The Real Ms. Beyond

Lurking for duty...er...whatever it is... Experiments with worldbuilder reveal the following: We can give all units to the barbarians and they will accept up to the point where they wouldn't be able to pay upkeep, then they might start refusing (but possibly not until next turn). Barbarian...

Things in Civilization IV which should be corrected, because they don't make sense

I don't understand. What does Rock and Roll have to do with music?

The Stack o' Doom: Effective Composition and Use of Offensive Military Stacks

Several comments: First of all, thank you DaviddesJ for reminding me about how combat promotions work differently from all other promotions and giving me an example that allowed me to understand what this means. The thing is, the attacker's combat promotions are applied to the attacker's...

Devil's Advocate: is this the end of creativity in Civ?

You know, I can almost see someone coming into this thread and saying, "Hey, I think that factories should occasionally produce toxic waste spills on random squares and then you would have to have workers go around and clean them up." It's not an unworthy idea, but, this person of course...

A New Discovery of Techs Mechanic for Civilization 5

Vael, you said a lot of what I would've said, thus ensuring that it would be said and saving me from saying it and being able to go on to saying other stuff. Thank you. Okay, consider the following. I research animal husbandry. Then I don't build any pastures. Or research writing and don't...

The Stack o' Doom: Effective Composition and Use of Offensive Military Stacks

I actually went and tried out a few archer rushes just for the heck of it. The problem is not that the AI pillages. Pillaging just isn't an issue, period. A couple of scouting warriors might try, but anybody else is going to run smack into the steam of reinforcing archers heading to help your...

    Culture Mechanics Disassembled

I don't see any way that any other building could effect trade routes. Of course, someone could confirm or refute this by doing an experiment with the world builder in which they place various cities and change their sizes or move them or add buildings and record the results. See, high school...

    Culture Mechanics Disassembled

*peeks at code* Okay, here's a rough idea of how it seems to work. None of this has been tested/verified, so don't put too much stock on it. Each city can be a trade target for one city belonging to each player, or in other words, each city can show up in the trade routes window of one of...

    Culture Mechanics Disassembled

I agree. I'll do this along with adding a couple of things I notice that I forgot: mention of culture not carrying over continental boundaries/ocean and that weird stuff where terrain around conquered cities sometimes becomes temporarily unowned. This will happen, well, whenever I get around...

    Culture Mechanics Disassembled

(Please note that all information given here is in regards to Vanilla Civ 1.61. It is probably unchanged in Warlords and the as yet unpublished Beyond the Sword expansion, but I have no way of being certain.) (Also note that the following information will generally refer to normal speed games...
