I believe there used to be a few more mountains on the map many many years ago. Those are plots where the stability map was never updated when they were changed to hills.
It would be cool if active volcanoes were represented on the map, narrowing the possible locations for the volcanic eruption event (maybe don't build your cottages there).
It would be nice though if you say, settle Australia as a Buddhist civ that all your cities there won't abandon their religion and convert to Protestantism when you adopt Secularism.
If you want to maximize core population, you can fit a whopping 9 cities in your core area. All these cities can become strong thanks to Russia's great modifiers. Found Moscow on the starting tile instead of 1W if you want to complete the UHV.

I like to put my Great Generals on siege weapons cause they're a lot more expensive to replace than other units and it really helps keep them alive. Plus then they retain all their experience points when upgraded, which also becomes free for an otherwise insanely expensive cost.
