Modern navy units should blow a caravel out of the water.

In my current game, I can look under victory conditions : culture, and Catherine has completed 2 trees in social policy. Piety and Rationalism! Not supposed to be able to do this are we ? I mean, I can't do it. :) I can upload a save later if needed. My apologies if this is known...
