Aaaand yesterday I finally (after 15 years in game) achieved personal "be(a)st" result with 1,17M :banana: points (previous best was 820K last month - I'm on fire this year!... before for years couldn't get over...
As very heavy coastal-city-builder in heart (like 99% of them) this for me feels one time to go inland and settle 2N2E (it keeps city spot for Clams 1W of Settler) to riverside. With forests around Mining->BW would allow some good quick settlychops.
There might be something else but definitely would double check difficulty, map size and speed (since new installment, could be "default" at Noble/Standard or similar) for sure - all 3 will impact research cost of each tech.
For competitive games it is very very rarely good idea (just because gold is too valuable for funding researh/covering empire costs).
Although some times (let say "semi-high level" games) I have used it pairing with Slavery so can finish things that are nearly done after whipping in cases where...
Even in case of worst enemy of many one can open borders for 10 turns (lenght of contract before can cancel) and move units across. Right after (10T) that cancel deal - AI can't demand to cancel deal that can't be cancelled manually.
There can be weird scenario where you technically stopped...
If look at them (5/6) as separate game series - I don't mind them but they just keeps giving "cartoonish board game" vibe.
Civ4 for me gives that "feel" to be in that world I'm playing. Even if I take some breaks from it for few months - any time I come back I just feel like Home.
In many games where I *might* have some early action that is followed for longer peace period and after that there is wide opening to rest of world (aka Astro'n'Omy), Moai fits lovely with Heroin Eric! Just don't get too addicted as rest of empire can do lovely job too!
This topic reminded me about another "mysterious" connection (very related with lovely image above) where one can get connection if 2 coast tiles are diagonally touching each other even if can't pass ships over (land tiles other diagonal way) - have sent workboat or galley around...
